If You Like "Wordle", Try "Connections"

I said the same thing.

I got it because they are all detectives/sleuths. I didn’t think about the kid part. They may be a children’s adaptation of Sherlock but it’s not a satisfying category

Enola Holmes is the lead character in a series of young adult novels, in which she is the young sister of Sherlock Holmes.

There’s also two different book series, The Boy Sherlock Holmes by Shane Peacock and Young Sherlock Holmes by Andrew Lane. This started in 2007 and 2010, respectively, so we geezers are less likely to know them.

Edit: I only just now recognized what the red herring was today. :man_facepalming:

Care to share it? I sailed through today’s puzzle; Green was my default, and that was only because I thought it was too obvious. I went Yellow, Purple, Blue, Green.

But I still don’t see the red herring!

Actor surnames from the Christopher Nolan Batman movies.

Thanks. Not familiar enough with those shows to see the herring.

In order of my color solving order, they would be Cillian MURPHY (Scarecrow), Tom HARDY (Bane), Heath LEDGER (Joker), & Christian BALE (Batman).

Also Katie Holmes.

Ha! Missed that one, but having a fifth is a dead giveaway.

Quick question. People here talk about the red herring. Is there always one and do you just have to guess it to see it’s wrong?
For today is it something like

Words that end in K

FWIW, I thought purple was easy today and could not figure out yellow at all. Overall, though, green was probably the easiest to me although I got purple first.

There almost always one false grouping. Something that looks like it would be together but isn’t an answer. Often there will be five which is a sign it isn’t one of the answers.

Some people have said that they don’t like Connections because it’s less a game and more just trying to get into the head of the puzzle’s writer and the red herring shows there is a little bit of truth to that.

There were a couple of potential red herrings today. Riddler and Mad Hatter are Batman villains; And Asterisk and Obelisk are (almost) comic book characters. Neither of those led anywhere, but once they are in your head, it’s hard to let go of the category you thought was there, adding to the challenge.

I burned one guess because the Riddler wears green. And I’ve never seen Wicked, so Elphaba didn’t immediately jump out in that category.

Otherwise, not too tough today.

My approach is to highlight a prospective category and then look at the remaining words to find additional categories before submitting the guess. If you need words in your first category to complete others, good chance you’ve found yhe red herring.

I do not expect many people could figure out the Purple category today. Cat’s Eye is not a term that comes up much anymore.

Agreed

In the UK at least cat’s eyes refers to reflective markers in the middle of a road to show the edge of lanes but I was not aware of any of the references in the puzzle and only got the purple group by elimination.

While I didn’t get the purple today I think that most people

of the feminine persuasion would be aware of cat’s eye liner and sunglasses.

Now got Taylor’s Swift’s Vigilante Shit running through my brain:
“Draw the cat’s eye sharp enough to kill a man…”

That’s the only use I was familiar with, and I’m not even a UKer! Yeah, big WTF from me on purple, but the rest was easy enough.

I would never have gotten the blue today. I thought the purple was easy but had to default on blue to the four left.
