I completely failed. I thought for sure the blue one was a red herring, so I didn’t even attempt to group those four words.

Not a fan of today’s. Both mistakes were putting
HAY into yellow (instead of FACULTY) and blue (instead of DEAN).

was such a different era than the other three I thought it had
to be the red herring. I was stuck forever on the last 8, I finally guessed green thinking it couldn’t really be that lame. It was.
Saturday’s puzzle: I highly question one of the Green answers, and I only sort of semi-figured out Purple’s category.

I had a problem too with it but it’s in thesauruses so I can’t complain. Just my ignorance.
Actually I prefer the use of obscure definitions of words to sports /pop culture / US-centric culture because its more accessible for an international audience.
Then I complain about the above. People are idiots and their whims should not be indulged.
Purple stuck out because they are always on those lists of curious words
‘Thesauri’.
Or is it ‘thesaurodes’?

Another one where purple was right in my wheelhouse and the first category that jumped out at me. Don’t agree with relative difficulties of blue and green. Pretty easy, except maybe for the more obscure green that I had to suss out.

Figuring out how Connections rates the categories is a big part of the puzzle solving.
There’s general guidelines, but I haven’t been able to figure them out consistently. Usually, it’s figuring which of green or yellow is considered easier when they’re both just straight synonyms, for instance. Yes, type of clue helps rank difficulty, but it’s never a “rule” which one is where in the hierarchy. It’s usually a 50-50 dice roll for me. Or a blue and a purple. Many times I’ve been surprised which is purple and which is blue, as blue can sometimes have “fill in the blank” type answers that usually go into purple. Or sometimes blue doesn’t frame it as a “fill in the blank” but “examples of X category” when there is also a “fill in the blank” style category that works that suggests purple. I’d also argue it’s not a big part of the puzzle solving as this sort of metagaming we do is not an intended mechanic of the game, so far as I can tell. There’s no stat for it, for instance. You don’t get any bonus for it. It’s something some solvers do to keep themselves entertained.
Yeah, I like to get the reverse rainbow as a challenge. I also sometimes try for the Eniarku, which is blue then yellow on top, making a little flag of Ukraine as a show of support. There’s a Ukrainian poster who frequently comments on The NY Times connections comments about life in the war zone and people started showing support with the Eniarku

I got it eventually. I should have recognized purple sooner. Half of green was bullshit. [spoiler] I’m not sure why, but I listen to four different economics podcasts / public radio shows. My mistakes were trying to match up economic terminology. I think it’s telling that sex, commerce, and ambiguity are so linguistically similar.[/spoiler]
