If You Like "Wordle", Try "Connections"

Still on Wednesday:

Connections

:blue_square::blue_square::blue_square::blue_square:
:yellow_square::yellow_square::yellow_square::yellow_square:
:green_square::green_square::green_square::green_square:

That was … odd. Like the easiest one I’ve seen yet. Connections Bot did score it a 1/5 difficulty, with a 96% completion rate.

The “analysis” part of Wordle and Connections is now behind a paywall for me. Are others seeing that?

Yes I used to be able to get ConnectionsBot to run in incognito mode, but now, even there, I get the paywall.

They moved the mini crossword behind the paywall today too.

Thought I had a reverse rainbow.

Ehh, did it OK but I don’t like ones with made-up words in them.

Way too easy these days.

What was made up? I had to look up CANTAB, but an online dictionary has it as a shortened form of ‘Cantabrigian’, a person from Cambridge.

“Forced” is perhaps a better descriptor for what I meant there than “made up”.

I haven’t done the puzzle yet, but whenever I see a word like that that is a bit obscure, it’s a giant flag that it is not being used for its meaning, but for its parts and is often a purple. It could be part of a letter substitution, be broken in two, rhyme, etc., but knowing the meaning is incidental. I had a quick glance (I do the puzzle later with my daughter) and I see what’s going on.

Yeah, I tend to dislike them because they make the puzzle easy.

Agreed. Once again, it took me less than a minute.

Exactly - it feels too metagame-ish, IMO.

This is a little bit of a side topic but if you enjoy Connections you should look into the game Things in Rings. It’s not exactly the same but similar. It’s about finding connections between words using Venn Diagrams.

When I got purple first, I actually tried for the reverse rainbow, which I seldom bother to do. But I guessed wrong on which of the remaining two super-easy groups was meant to be easier.

I found this more a pain in the ass than you all did. Purple was by far the easiest for me, but the rest I had to spend like five minutes on. Weird how that works. It was a 1/5 difficulty puzzle according to the bot.

Friday’s game. I really struggled with this one. Head not in the game, coupled with some obscure stuff. Yellow was last, and I still didn’t piece it together!

Couldn’t get green. Still don’t really like it.

Not easy - there were a couple where I was off by one.
Also, what I suppose is an Americanism - 7-Eleven is just a convenience store elsewhere, they don’t sell petrol

I avoided the Super Mario red herring and got the first two quickly, but the last two eluded me until I remembered to consider the words as both nouns and verbs.

Ade me work this morning.
