Today, letterboxed is also behind the paywall for me.

No. 811

By Wyna Liu

This one was pretty much made for me, so I’m interested how difficult other people found it and how obscure 3 or the 4.categories are.

Letterbox and Tiled both. (I never play either of them, but I just checked for science.)

Saturday’s puzzle. I knew the categories, but not confident of the contents. I basically hoped I picked right for Blue, which answered what I was missing for Purple. I have never heard Eat used in that way, and don’t know who the other two composers are. Also ‘contemporary’ is a stretch for nearly fifty years after their heyday.

I didn’t find this one hard at all. Shoulda been able to start with purple but I saw the blue so quickly, I just clicked on it. Purple was the most obvious one, but somehow I missed it because of the blues.

I think using the c-word in that context makes sense when it wouldn’t, say, for golfers or car brands which have changed more dramatically in that time

Never would have gotten purple. Only familiar with one or maybe two.

It’s okay; we all get sad, sometimes.

Steve REICH, John CAGE, Brian ENO, and Philip GLASS?! A friend of mine in college was a big fan of avante garde classical music, otherwise I might never have heard of some of them. They’re not exactly mainstream.

For purple - yeah, I think there’s a tighter category for that specific grouping
Also, @GuanoLad I agree about the EAT

ive heard it more in the past tense, as in an outfit or performance

I tried to put POP with the “do well” terms, then tried to put (Iggy) POP with the composers.
This one gave me a headache.

This is Sunday’s puzzle. It was not an easy one for me, so it made the clean solve that much more satisfying.

I had no problems here, saw what they were going for with blue, which I rate more difficult than purple actually .

I did see blue. It was my second one. Purple was last and I felt stupid that I didn’t see it before it was revealed.
