I struggled with purple and blue, though my usual stream-of-consciousness thinking should probably have come up with STICKS sooner.
As for blue, the puzzle is usually full of HETERONYMS anyway, just by nature of the game. Kind of disappointing that there was nothing more to the category.
It’s Monday where I am, and I failed this one. There were too many Americanisms again, but also I wouldn’t know a poet if I had breakfast with them.

Agreed that blue was more difficult than purple. I saw purple pretty early on, but then when I found blue I went with that one first as it seemed more difficult, even though purple’s fill-in-the-blank format suggested it was purple.

Completely missed this one.
I was going for Larry (Bird, Burns, Pope, Bishop) and when I got one away I thought maybe there was another one I didn’t know. I even ended up googling names.

Being American and an English literature major helped on this one. I saw blue right away, but held off thinking it might not be a purple, which I like to hunt for first.

I kind of figured out what they were after when I saw both MLB PLAYER and NFL PLAYER. Spent a little time thinking about Padres, Falcons, Eagles, etc. The twist was that they both were in the same category! That made things easier.
Blue was leftovers. I had no idea.
Tuesday’s puzzle was completely ridiculous. If anybody got Blue’s category correct, they deserve a prize. I was going for Right Said Fred, which I thought was unlikely, but the real answer is way out there.

I don’t give myself complete credit since I was spoiled accidentally for the green category. I did try to solve for everything else first but only saw the purple answer when everything else was eliminated.

I don’t know, @GuanoLad , for me it was either that or Pride participant. It was specifically the pleather that gave it away. The controversy around the doll was quite a thing in the 90s
I quite like that I got purple before everything else was eliminated.
I agree. I mean, I assumed the Blue items went together but I had no idea what the theme was.

Didn’t know about the stated blue category. I just thought late 90s / early 2000s douchenozzle.
Wednesday’s game. I liked the word play of the initial arrangement.
I didn’t guess Purple’s category, but I knew I should’ve, it tickled my brain frustratingly.

Just like the others, I didn’t know what blue was, but saw those looked very connected and I even guessed it would be the blue category. Didn’t see the purple right away (though I guessed two of the category words correctly–I’m smacking myself for not seeing it sooner), so I went with what I saw in order.

What was the wordplay with the initial arrangement? I jumped into the puzzle so quickly I didn’t notice anything about the starting position.
