Blue was the easiest, as that’s my profession but I suspect most people would have immediately seen it; purple was easy because of one word and there’s only so many ways to manipulate a word.

For yesterday’s puzzle, “finlet” is not a nonsense word — it exists. I’ve never seen Connections use a fake word. It’s just obscure to most people and, as you said, for that reason a giveaway, like you said. When a rare word appears, it almost always is not being used for its meaning (though I seem to remember once a word I’d consider uncommon being used literally.)

Took a while to get started on this one, and a slow go once I did.

I was ignorant of the Korean WON, and have never seen STERLING in the context of currency without “POUND” in front of it, so blue was leftovers.

I was annoyed about that too and thought they were just lazy. But looking it up, one is the official name used in merry old England and the other is used in a number of countries, with the name of the country added to the word.

Yeah, I’ve just started playing this, and this one was easy. I saw that one of the words was Downing, and I could only think of one category that could be in, and sure enough there were three other words that fit. And once you’ve got one word, it makes the rest combinatorically easier.
