Yeah, I’d say about a quarter of the time the purple screams out at you, and this was one of them. A day or two ago there was FINLET, which did the same. But you do have to be careful with red herrings just in case, like we had with MAR, SNICKER, MOUND, and WHOPPER the other day.
In theory, from the least to the most difficult is supposed to be yellow, green, blue, purple. In practice, yellow tends to be four synonyms, and if there’s a word play category it’s purple.
Stopped for a second because I thought Connections were a backing band for someone or other but then realised I was thinking of the Attractions and now I’m wondering why they didn’t use ATTRACTION as a clue to make things tricky
Connections annoys me (even though I do it every day. But I don’t particularly care if I extend my winning streak), as a general rule. But, props where they’re due, today’s purple solution was pretty elegant.
I was completely clueless about purple, and only got it by process of elimination (though I did imagine that banshees and wailers would go together). But I have seen strand used in that way, mostly in old folk songs, so that part wasn’t too tough for me.
