If you want calming, feel good political reading, try the politics subreddit

As in r/politics. Its users are pretty consistently upvoting all the good news for Harris and bad news for Trump that they can find.

Yes, you shouldn’t get complacent. Yes, it’s a bubble that tells only part of the whole picture. But there’s a reason why bubbles are so popular: they’re soothing. It feels good to be comforted and have your beliefs reinforced. Given the content of other threads, I think many of you might need some political comfort food occasionally, and I trust y’all to not get lost in it.

It won’t solve anything practical, it’s probably not something everyone wants or needs, and I can’t guarantee the accuracy of takes or discussion. All I’m saying is that if you want a temporary, relaxing “bubble” bath, a short break from cynicism and existential dread, a reminder to not feel that everything is futile for just a few goddamn minutes, I think it might be a good option.

Just don’t sort by controversial.

No, no, no, no. I used to use Reddit to gauge sentiment. I cannot trust that site now because it seems like most people only care about getting upvotes and not actually thinking about reasonable replies (i.e. bandwagon), though there are some very well thought out posts and posters with very specific knowledge. Hardly any of the sites cited are worthwhile, and it seems like 9/10 posts are reposts, troll posts (those sorted “controversial”), or some kind of engagement strategy (emotional appeal) solely meant for “upvotes.”

Reddit angers me, straightdope “soothes” me.

Just go to /r/conservative if you find the liberal lean of /r/politics too liberal.

I am not sure what point the OP wants to make. That /r/politics on Reddit is liberal? Ok, it is. But there is no shortage of conservative sub-Reddit threads to be had if that is what you want.

The fact that the default subreddit for politics leans liberal suggest that Reddit as a whole leans liberal–which you’ll find true the other defaults. Conservatives all have to get their own subreddits.

But I think the OP’s main point is that it’s nice to have a place to read positive stories about the campaign. It’s definitely better than all of those overwrought “Trump DESTROYED by DAMNING Ad!!!” headlines.

No, I was trying to say I find reddit a useless annoyance. I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s the text equivalent of youtube’s unsolicited recommendations.

I find the liberal confidence bubbles unsettling and certainly NOT calming. I haven’t forgotten 2016.

Yep, I knew that there’d be replies that ignored my obvious efforts to emphasize that I wasn’t advocating for serious political analysis to be done here, and/or my equally obvious attempt to address complacency (or otherwise just think that it’s “safer” to live in fear). Those who got what I wanted to say, my suggestion is out there, do what you want.
