Actually, they’ve just relaunched it. Yet it should be mentioned that they’re aiming for the same hipster ironic-consumption customer base that was responsible for Pabst Blue Ribbon’s successful revival so an attempt to come across as anti-elitist by picking it might backfire.

National Bohemian in Baltimore.

Natty Boh was originally brewed in Baltimore, but the brand is currently owned by Miller and brewed in their North Carolina brewery.

Clipper City is a great Baltimore brewery; I’m partial to their Loose Cannon IPA myself, but it might be a bit too hoppy for some. Their gold ale, pale ale, and marzen lager would all be good choices.

I’m wondering who bought the beer. If it was purchased with taxpayer dollars, I am outraged at this blatant show of wasteful spending.

I’m happy to just assume that the President periodically runs out to the local liquor store and builds his own six-pack to try different beers.

Myself, I’d be drinking Flat Tire Amber Ale. That’s a good beer to have a serious, but not formal conversation over. Also it’s just good beer.

Not being a drinker, I’d probably go for an IBC Root Beer. Of course, then the conservative talk shows would be all about how I’m some elitist moral policeman who wants to bring back Prohibition and can’t hold my liquor like a real American.

No love for Harpoon? They brew in Boston, and are one of the bigger regional names around here. Their summer ale is damn tasty, and my current favorite out of the (admittedly limited) selection at the nearby liquor stores.

But yeah, I figured that Obama would have picked Sam Adams as the safe choice, for all of the reasons listed above. It’s quality, but not too fancy, and just about as “elite” as Red Stripe or Blue Moon.
