My grandfather was a decorated WWII veteran, 26th US Cavalry, Bataan Peninusula, 1942. Not born in the United States.
My father was a decorated Korean and Vietnam War veteran (Bronze Star), U.S. Navy (Task Force 77, USS Valley Forge) and an ground-to-air radio controller (3rd Mobile Communications Group, Pleiku, Vietnam). He was not born in the United States.
One uncle and cousin are on the Vietnam War Memorial, representing the US Marine Corps and the 1st Air Cavalry Division, Khe Sanh and Ia Drang Valley. They were also not born in the United States. They died wearing the uniform of the United States, and they rest in Arlington.
I served the US Air Force for 20 years, decorated in the Gulf War and Panama Crisis. Unfortunately, I too was not lucky enough to be born in the United States. My daddy travelled a lot and we had to go with him.
