I think some element of perspective may be useful.
This was the worst terrorist act ever and an appalling tragedy.
But the loss of the WTC and the damage to the Pentagon don’t matter, they are just buildings. They will be rebuilt.
The huge loss of life will take a lot longer to get over but after the dust settles and the dead are buried, and after the guilty parties are caught and punished, democracy in America will carry on as before.
Darth Vader said “The ability to destroy planets is as nothing compared to the power of the force”. I don’t mean to be flippant using this quote, I think there is genuinely a message in there.
I have some knowledge of what Im saying - the centre of my hometown, Manchester, was destroyed by a huge IRA bomb. But we rebuilt and now everyone agrees it’s even better than it was before.

And I don’t think of that as flippant, xanakis. I think that, in the future looking back on this day and those that will follow it, that it will be a testament to the fragility of human works, human flesh–and the awful (the archaic sense of the term) strength of the human spirit.

I agree with Fenris’s basic point, but smearing everyone who opposes US policy in Israel as “anti-Semetic” is uncalled for and deeply offensive.
While it is not always anti-Semitic to oppose US foreign policy in Isreal, I think that Fenris’ point was that the comments that many people are making are thinly veiled anti-Semitic sentiments. They were on CourtTV and C-Span2, also. I dont know how long they were taking callers, but it was pretty bad…

Some of us are not to fond of the manner that Israeli soliders kill Palestinian civilians. The Palestinians aren’t angels but I don’t think the US should pretend that the Israelies are.

The disagreement towards Fenris’ statement has been voiced, so he can come in and defend it as he sees fit. Stupid pointless comment coming up: Your quote reminds of a couple things I thought earlier. The first was whaterver Obi-Wan said before they got the the remains of Alderaan about “a million souls crying” or something like that. I thought this because I was very glad that the Force is fiction and I didn’t hear several thousand such cries this morning. The second thing I thought of was the Apocalypse Now speech of Col. Kurtz about VC chopping off all the innoculated arms, and how it impressed him. I gotta stop watching movies.
