If you're going to post questions about Judaism, don't do it on Saturday!

For some incomprehensible reason, the most popular time for people to post questions about Judaism is on the same day that the adherents themselves have taken the day off. Check your calenders people!

You know, some of can wait for our answers till Sunday, or even Monday!

Not like the Jewish Dopers might check the board after sundown on Saturday. Doesn’t the Sabbath run sundown to sundown?

As a minor note, there are puh-lenty of non- (or at least casually-) observant Jews on this board who can answer questions on Saturday, or in fact any time they (heh) damn well feel like it.

::Checks his sun-dial::

I didn’t know there were any practicing Jews left! I’m unfortunately a bad Jewboy. :frowning:

Sam

“I told that bastard, I don’t roll on Shabbat!”

Shouldn’t you username be G-Wd?
OP, maybe someone who is asking about Judaism is ignorant of that point. A person should know everything?

;j

Seriously, with all this unwarranted username attention lately, I think I’ll have it changed. Sheesh.

Shmuel

Chill, mister. In a thread about observing practices of Judaism, your name is sure to stand out. Especially since many of us are quite familiar with the custom of not writing out the Name of God that many of our Jewish Dopers observe, writing it out as G_D so as not to take His Name in vain.

In light of that, my post was a joke. JOKE!

But, change your name, what should I care? ;j

NCB. Be nice to Sam, he’s a mensch.

You want I should be nice? This is nice.

:dubious: You’ve seen me not nice.

btw, you left your bra in my car… :stuck_out_tongue:
Still, in the spirit of good relations, I’m sorry, GaWd. I pray you don’t Judge me. Perhaps this can be the Genesis of a new friendship. And the Exodus of animosity. I hope i didn’t cause any Lamentations on your part. Good Job, Mo.

What, you want they should let the question roll around in their heads for a day? Why not ask it now and get it over with?

Don’t make a big deal out of it already. The more conservative members of the board will chime in when they chime in (and oy, do they chime in!).

;j

gasp of horror

It’s a Sunday! I’m… I’m Christian! I have to leave right now, wash my hands of this horrible, filthy board, and spend the rest of the day in devout prayer!

Blalron, chill. Plenty of Jewish Dopers will be able to answer questions on Saturday.

Don’t forget the time difference between the US and Israel. That almost takes care of it right there!

8 or 9 hours, if Blalron’s location is accurate. Not much luck there.

Yeah, in my very own GD thread concerning Judaism, I was admonished for posting it on a Saturday. It was posted then for 3 reasons.

First, while I knew Jews were resticted on Saturday activities, it isn’t something I keep at the forefront of my daily life, and it never occured to me it may offend someone.

Second, even if I had remembered the restriction, it’s not like I was forcing anyone to answer right away. It could wait a day if that’s what it took.

Third, I wasn’t restricting posts to Orthodox Jews only. Hell, Dio gave some very imformative ideas and thoughts, and he doesn’t believe in any God!!
(Heathen)
Calm the fuck down about when shit gets posted unless you’re willing to open a thread telling us all what each and every rule is.

I spelled it this way because I was never very attracted to “G_D” as a username. I chose this as an alternate so as not to offend thy father.

Mine was meant partly in jest, and partly serious as I’ve been contemplating it for a little while(I’m having image problems as I grow older  ). Sorry if I came off a bit more offended than I truly was. It’s the Jew in me, given to drama.

Please, I’m ubermenschen! Thanks, Mo!

Shmuel

I did it once. The question occured to me at about noon on Friday, Pacific time. And I knew that if I didn’t post it then, I’d forget about it, and not know. But if I did post it then, then maybe, just maybe, it would stay on the boards until Sunday. And I’d get an answer.

But I did realize how stupid the timing was and mention that (the bad timing) in the OP.

It’s not like Judaism is some secret cult with a ton of hidden and obscure rules. Well not exactly.

It is an open society so there is no reason why non-Jews cannot answer such questions.

Internet Rule #563,432,346: Only sabbath-oberserving Jews can answer questions about Judaism.
