When I was a child, life was so magical. And everyday, a new lesson, and things seem to get worse.
I bet people were genuinely happier when they thought the earth was flat, and that they were at the center of the universe. I mean, what pleasure is it to know that we actually live on a speck of rock at the outskirts of some insignificant galaxy? And our sun is only a medium sized star, when it used to be a GOD?
I know this board is dedicated to fighting ignorance, but on a second look, we can all see, it is fighting happiness, the stuff we live for!
It is my mission to kill every learned brain cell by successive consumption of 40 oz malt liquor in order to regain the happiness I once had as a child.
Yep – so happy that they routinely burned suspected heretics and witches at the stake, and lost 1/3 of the European population to a plague which nowadays is easily cured with antibiotics.
Which fills you with a greater sense of awe and magesty – the notion that the universe is unimaginably vast and unimaginably old and that you’re part of something really, really, really big; or the notion that the universe is only a few hundred generations old and only extends out to roughly the orbit of Saturn, at which distance there’s a big crystalline bowl that has stars painted on it that’s kept in motion by some old “God” guy with a big white beard?

Life is magical now… I type on my computer; you can see it on yours and type something back to me. How that happens is beyond me, but I’m glad somebody somewhere figured it out.
The lack of self-determination children have is a hindrance to true happiness. Happiness is a choice, and you can only have choices when you have information. I am way happier as an adult – I get to pick what I do with my time, where I do it, and with whom. I decide what jobs I have, what car I drive, what clothes I wear, and what food I eat.
I’m happier knowing my cruise isn’t going to end in sailing-over-the-edge disaster, and singing along to “The Sun Is A Mass Of Incandescent Gas” by They Might Be Giants. What inherant pleasure is there in thinking the earth is the center of the universe? Being the center is a big responsability, and frankly, I don’t want it.
Life in ignorance is a kind of slavery. Life seeking truth and understanding is freedom, and freedom is happiness.
