"Ignorant person" and "quit talking out of your ass", OK in MPSIMS?

And now you’re lying. I never asked you to write a mod note, warn, ban or anything else. I reported the post and I started this thread, but you can either quote where I asked you to take that action, or you can stuff it (I’m a bit pissed off at your lie, so I hope “stuff it” is ok, if not, well, sorry).

You’re really bad at this.

No, you’re right. You reported a post and asked me to take some action without specifying what the action you wanted me to take was. The action I finally took was to write a mod note.

IMHO, calling someone “Ignorant” is far, far worse than calling someone “Stupid”.

People get called “Stupid” all the time, to the point where it’s largely (and again IMHO) somewhat meaningless as a general insult. But calling someone “Ignorant” to me adds an unpleasant connotation that not only is the person unaware of [whatever], but they’re an irredeemable thickie who’s incapable of comprehending or understanding [whatever] in the first place, or worse, likes being the way they are. It just conjures up images of backward hillbillies and other unpleasant assocations, I feel.

I’m confused (or ignorant, or both).

We just got the green light to call posters “ignorant” and everyone is complaining?

This is quite offensive, and I am doing my to not call you the appropriate slang terms you deserve. It seems you know what I know!

That is all I have to say on this as I could not be more offended with the haughtiness.

I ask from ignorance and I get a snark from an ‘Official’. Typical of Una as I’ve seen in plenty of other threads. Fuck this jerkish attitude.

All I asked was where it is allowed for someone (anyone) to be judged from their posts - which you stated happened (right?). Then I get a statement that I know the answer.

I guess the words do not mean the same where I sit.

Please take one karma point from me, OK? Or however Una files posts  And I did not even bother to read beyond first sentence, fwiw, as the opening was offensive enough. Pretty good for ATMB, Una. Too bad you won’t fight ignorance (as shown here anyways.)

I see it as quite the opposite. Ignorance is not being knowledgeable-this can be corrected by the acceptance of information. Stupid is not being able to accept the information-a lost cause.

I’ve always associated the concept you’re discussing with as being “Unlearned” or “Unknowledgeable”; to be honest. “Stupid” has become a watered down Generic Insult IMHO.

I assumed you were being rhetorical or sarcastic, since the Member Agreement is something which you had to agree to in order to register an account on this message board, and it’s available to re-read at any time, and it’s trivially easy to search through it to find any text you want, it would be a stretch to think someone would be unable to remember, find, or determine what is or is not in the agreement which they themselves agreed to in order to post on this message board. However, since you claim to be obviously confused, I apologize to you.

First off, it’s obvious by inspection I’m not an “Official” on the message board, even if you allege you stopped reading after the first sentence. The list of Moderators is trivial to find, so it’s baffling that you are unable to find it, or read the title below my name in every single post (since you claim to know my posting history so well…odd). Second, you think that saying you should know what was in the registration agreement which you yourself agreed too was “offensive,” yet accuse me of…um…“haughtiness” and have no problem at all with in effect calling me a jerk in ATMB.

How unfortunate.

So do many, many of the peasants.

Agree that Ignorant --as used by Inigo-- was more derogatory than Stupid would have been.

“Ignorant” means uninformed only if closely accompanied by a topic. “You’re ignorant regarding the new discoveries in the field.” “You’re apparently ignorant of Martha’s latest problems.”

But if someone just says, “You’re ignorant” it’s equivalent to “You’re an ignorant person.” Which absolutely does not mean, “You’re uninformed.”

I might translate it as “your mind and thoughts are repulsive.” Or as Martini wrote:an irredeemable thickie who’s incapable of comprehending or understanding [whatever] in the first place, or worse, likes being the way they are.

“Peasants?” Now that’s unfair.

I have never in any of my dealings, online, by phone, or in real life with SDMB Staff sensed even a hint of them feeling like they were anything other than a member of the community, but with a job to do in addition to that fact. I have never, ever read or heard any one of them even imply they felt superior to or better than anyone else on here. I’ve not ever seen them in reference to the Moderation or Administration of the board discuss something offline which was not done professionally and with honesty.

Furthermore, allow me to jump from this topic to the closely related topic of how I get really tired of the picking on Ed which some seem to do. Ed works his ass off to keep the SDMB running, behind the scenes, in addition to all the work he does for the Straight Dope and Cecil. Ed is the biggest booster there is to his bosses for keeping the SDMB viable and running smoothly. Folks can criticize things like server performance, problem adverts, the speed of roll-outs, etc. but what they may not, and need to understand is that Ed really is doing everything he reasonably can to make this a better place. I know Ed personally, and when he says he’s done everything he can, people can be upset at the fact that things still aren’t how they want it, sure, but I wish doggone it that they would give Ed some credit and support for working on making things right. Ed doesn’t have an 8-5 job - he’s working on, among other things, the Straight Dope and message board concerns well beyond any reasonable time. I can receive mails from him at both 7:00am and past midnight on any given day, as well as on every day of the week and holidays.

Sometimes being the boss means you piss people off. Sometimes being the boss means you make the wrong decisions, for the right reason. As I’ve learned on my own message board from numerous hard examples, sometimes there is no clear right or wrong answer to a situation - no matter which option you choose, some party and their supporters will be pissed off. People aren’t perfect and mistakes get made. If the person making the mistakes is trying to do the right thing, then I think that is a powerful positive, all else aside.

Yes, you went on to develop new and creative ways to break the rules, such as stalking someone across the board to hurl personal insults at them outside of the Pit. Clearly, giving you a polite private request to behave yourself worked wonders.

You don’t find it remotely useful to ever consider that you may have been wrong about anything or to examine why you had to reverse a prior decision, so that you can learn and grow as a person and someone of authority on this board.

That was going to be a question, but then I decided to be honest.

Yes, that attitude has recently been expressed most explicitly by you.

And if you want to talk about how **Ed **gets a bum deal, perhaps you could start another thread for it. It’s pretty off-topic here, and that way other people could see the topic and comment on it.
