I remember a jumbo sized comic book from being a kid, early 70’s, about a rabbit named “Ike Hare”. Ike Hare got so fed up with people being selfish and uncaring that he ran away deep in the woods to get away from everyone. So, they sent out a search party, calling “Ike Hare! Ike Hare!” which wound up sounding like “I care! I care!” after which our rabitt returned with his friends.
Does anyone else remember this comic book? I can’t find anything about it on google…
Never heard of it, but I like it
Hi. I’m the author of The Search for Ike Hare. The story just came to me as I was riding home from work one day–well, actually two days. A friend from church worked for K G Gravette, a company that sold giant coloring books as an alternative to the typical candy campaigns where kids went door to door. I only wrote the story. Vern Hinkel did the illustrations. (I was thrilled with his rendering of Ike and perplexed at the rendering of Jenny!)
I believe I wrote it around 1975 because I sold the rights to the story to them and then used the money to go off to Bible school in 1976. Gravette went out of business and I made one half-hearted attempt at trying to contact someone to secure the rights to the story but did not follow through. It’s a great and simple story and I also wish that it were still in print.
A friend from work happened to google the title and found only this link to Straight Dope. Naturally she forwarded the info to me and I registered just to say ‘thanks’ and to give you the background on why you’ll likely not find it anywhere.
