Il Barbiere di Siviglia (the Barber of Seville) MET Opera HD Broadcast

Did anyone go see this yesterday?

from the met site…

“The greatest Rossini tenor of our time, Juan Diego Flórez, sings the role of Count Almaviva in The Met’s first new Barbiere in 25 years. Diana Damrau and Joyce DiDonato share the role of Rosina, Peter Mattei is Figaro, Samuel Ramey is Don Basilio and John Del Carlo sings the role of the hapless Dr. Bartolo.”

I was blown away by this yesterday, what a lively and hilarious production, full of physical comedy…it was stellar. all the singers were phenomenal… “largo al factotum” with Peter Matteti was the best iv heard. and the conductor Maurizio Benini was the unsung hero keep the score extremely fluid, even for Rossini. there was nothing in this opera that dragged or just plodded along, everything was beautifully set

I’m so thankful for the MET for this amazing oppiturnity to see their works live!! the HD was clear and the audio was wonderful…In Canada we had a issue in the first act where the video was about a half second out from the audio but they fixed it for the second half and it didn’t actually bother me that much, only on the extreme close ups…

How did the rest of you opera lovers find this?!

I didn’t go to it, but I went to the first one broadcast to theatre, The Magic Flute. Had a great time, too.

I heard it on XLNC here in San Diego sitting in Balboa Park, and I was so jealous of the live audience… It was a wonderful performance.

I didn’t see it (I sang an opera this weekend and the last thing I needed to do on my off time was go see more opera), but several friends did. The reviews were generally stellar. The feeling on the Largo was that it was very well sung but completely unimaginative with no liberties taken at all (and no high As). Second-hand report, so take it as you will.

I wish I could see it, if only to learn the story behind music I associate with Bugs Bunny.
