Ilium/Olympos Questions **SPOILERS**

Since this whole thing may constitute spoilers I will not bother with spoiler boxes.

I am nearing the end of Olympos by Dan Simmons. While there is still some book left I fins myself having questions that I am not seeing answered. Of course some may be yet to come but I am getting frustrated at some unexplained gaps. Maybe someone here can help.

  1. Why are all the Post-Humans playing at Olympian gods. Near as I could tell Prospero setup Mars to hold Setebos where Setebos fed on the pain and suffering produced by the trojan war. But how did post humans go from evolved human to Titans and then some others came along as Zeus & Co. and cast them down and so on? Did Prospero brain wash the whole lot into buying that fiction?

  2. How did the Olympian Gods seem to both understand the technological underpinnings of their powers while at the same time cavorting around as if it were all magic? While they made use of the tech they seemed to have little understanding of it (like giving a machine gun to a cave man…he could figure how to shoot it but not how or why it worked). If they built the Rings around earth and invented Faxing and used wormholes and tamed black holes and such then evolved themselves out of bodies where did they lose it all?

  3. I am still vague on where the Demogorgon, Prospero, Ariel, Sycorax and The Quiet are all from. Sounds like humans linked to other universes and these things came through. There is even mention of the Demogorgon as a race (that likes to eat Setebos as snacks). So these things come from another universe…but only one of each…and then they decide to play at Trojan War and pretend to be the gods of gods?

  4. Why were all the post humans female? Moira (the last remaining post human but not god) mentions this to Harman. Of course there are Zeus and the like but Moira said it was just some of the women deciding to assume male form.

  5. What is the deal with the Atlantic Breach? (This may yet remain to be explained) And why was the Global Caliphate going to zap the whole earth with a few hundred Black Holes? Were they going to lose the war (although I thought they had won in their time) and in a fit if pique were going to destroy the earth?

  6. Where did the Voynix come from? I think this has been explained but the explanations were a smidge here and a dash there so having trouble putting it all together. The Global Caliphate sent them to the future to kill jews. Also used them in their present to kill most everything.

  7. Not understanding what the Rubicon was. Sounds like it killed everyone on earth except for a handful of Jews who managed to make themselves immune. Did someone make the Rubicon? Just happened? Aliens?

I think I have a few more but not occurring to me now.
