I am trying to find a list of illnesses that can affect your teeth or lead to loss of teeth, but it’s proving to be pretty hard to google. Anyone have any idea where I can find this?
Type/google gum diseases and periodontal diseases.
Periodontal disease is the number one cause of tooth loss. Heck, google ‘number one cause of tooth loss’.
Bulimia/anorexia
The treatment for leukemia in the mid-seventies caused discoloration of the teeth; not sure if it was actually decay, though. And not sure if this is really what you’re looking for.
ANYTHING which causes vomiting
You’ll want to google something like “dental manifestation of systemic illness”
http://download.journals.elsevierhealth.com/pdfs/journals/0733-8635/PIIS0733863502000669.pdf
http://www.mssm.edu/msjournal/65/01_Long.pdf
and the like. You may have to glance through these to separate oral problems in general from dental-specific ones.
One more cite, but you may need to pay for it depending on your access choices:
“Relationship of dental and oral pathology to systemic illness.”
JAMA. 2000 Sep 13;284(10):1215-7
Thanks a lot! Being Norwegian, it was kind of hard for me to find the right search terms. These links and search terms were exactly what I was looking for.
I know it’s not a disease but apparently pregnancy is related to tooth loss.
I heard this a long time ago and a quick Google search turned that up.
