My younger friends thought Fast Times was a realistic depiction of their high schools. I wish! Bob and Doug were more like my pals than any of those Fast Times kids were.
And BrotherCadfael? I was more “early 70s” and the same admonition applies to us. Later 70s were more (what’s that word I’m looking for? Coke?) I, despite a misspent youth, have never even seen cocaine.
On the one hand, I can see why he’d be sick of it. I heard Al Stewart say that, every tour promoting his latest album, meant The Year of the Cat sold better. Not the new album, but the old one. Heard another interview with Don McLean where he described a similar situation with American Pie.
Kid, I have never agreed with you, whether it be politics or hockey, to the same extent that I agree with you on that. To the extent that we should walk into the shrink, wherever we are, just walk in and say, “Shrink, you can get anything you want at Alices’ Restaurant,” and walk out.
There really aren’t too many movies out there where you would need more than 60 secods to explain, so why should this be any different?
As for finding it on the air in Boston, WNEW probably still runs it every Thanksgiving. Pretty much every “classic rock” station runs it only on Thanksgiving.
Oh my God, I’ve been there and didn’t even know it had anything to do with the song! I think I should learn to appreciate the song more, now that it’s so personal to me.
