"I'm a Christian first..........."

So what you’re saying is that D.C. should probably pony up some cash for urgent brimstone-proofing ?

Oh, I do hope that the interviewer immediately said “Ah. Such as yourself.”

Seriously? Christians have been oppressing and burning each other from the time they got the power to do so in the 4th century until that power was taken away from them in the 18th. That they don’t do it now has a great deal to do with the fact that they woudn’t be allowed to. Christianity has probably the bloodiest history of any religion on the planet.

As for the professed Christianity of Trump and Hillary both are equally hypocritical. Do you honestly believe that either of them live their lives by Christian values?

And yet evangelicals saidpersonal morality didn’t matter for Trump, only for Bill Clinton.

That is the most asinine thing I ever heard (I think ).

No, I’d have to say the state religion of the Aztec Empire had them beat easily. Thank goodness we don’t have to deal with a group that regards mass human sacrifice with added torture features as a good and essential part of life.

You are correct, Christianity has a bloody history but as practiced today at this time in history it’s pretty well behaved for a religion - and I agree that’s largely because it has a lot less power than in the past.

Only in the sense that “Christian values” has become part of the secular culture of the US due to the influence of so many Christians living there. No, neither is particularly Christian in actions.

Which, frankly, I don’t care about - I’m not a Christian either. What bothers me is the hypocrisy. I don’t profess to be Christian, they do, and I don’t like hypocrites.

What did Clinton do that is not particularly Christian ?

which Clinton are you referring to? :::d&r:::

Assuming you meant Hillary - her deceitfulness is probably one of her most unChristian qualities. Mind you, I don’t she’s violated nearly as many Christian rules as, say, Trump or her husband have, but she seems to be more going through the forms and appearances than having any truly deep faith/belief on her part.

“Deceitfulness”? By that measure no politician/elected official can claim to be Christian.

Then they should stop doing so. Obviously their faith does not drive their decisions so they should stop making the rest of us being subject to their faith.

Hey, wouldn’t bother me - I’d happily vote for a qualified NeoPagan, Hindu, Buddhist, or just a Christian who wasn’t either trying to shove it down everyone’s throat or giving off vibes of being a poseur.

Also what running coach said.

A deceitful person can claim anything they want to. That’s what makes them deceitful.

Perhaps I’m biased but I get the impression that Republican politicians are the ones who are much more vocal about their Christianity. Hillary Clinton is Methodist and her beliefs seem to have influenced her work in the public sphere but she’s less vocal about it.

Aren’t there several passages in the Bible that plainly say those who make a show of their religosity and “piousness” in order to advance themselves are …

How do i put this delicately…

Pieces of absolute filth?
““Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.”
Matthew 6:1 ESV

“You hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, when he said: “‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’””
Matthew 15:7-9 ESV

“If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen.”
1 John 4:20 ESV

“I do not sit with the deceitful, nor do I associate with hypocrites.”
Psalm 26:4 NIV

"Who say, ‘Keep to yourself, do not come near me, For I am holier than you!’ These are smoke in My nostrils, A fire that burns all the day.
Isaiah 65:5

and in their greed they will exploit you with false words; their judgment from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.
2 Peter 2:3

"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cummin, and have neglected the weightier provisions of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness; but these are the things you should have done without neglecting the others. "You blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel!
Matthew 23:23-24

"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you travel around on sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves.
Matthew 23:15

["Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you devour widows’ houses, and for a pretense you make long prayers; therefore you will receive greater condemnation.]
Matthew 23:14

I guess that’s enough.
Let’s put the new VP, Pence right at the top of the list.

However, the Bible also said it’s easy for a rich man to put a needle through the eye of a camel.

I think.
The top of the list is already crowded by Cruz and Huckabee.

You can put the needle in, but that camel WILL kill you for it

Of course now even King James is obsolete. We now have the New Improved All American Prosperity Gospel.

Rich people are more godly, no matter if they inherited or stole the money… Wealth and power are now a sign of God’s favor. Poor people are poor because God hates them and they are lazy, and they made bad choices, and they just suck.
