I'm a Poet! Kind of....would like your honest opinion.

One day, being particularly stressed I wrote a short poem. To be honest, I don’t really like poetry, I find it absurd most of the time, with few exceptions, of course.

I turned in my “work” to poetry.com, which certified various of my poems as a “semi-finalist” or “finalist” in various competitions. I even won an Ipod shuffle as a result. Anyways, to make a long story short, I became skeptical at this Website, and sure enough, It’s one of those sites that tries to take money from you by “offering” to print your poem(s) in a “limited edtion” book. But, if you don’t pay for it, you simply wont see your work published anywhere else.

This is the way to access my poems, as direct links to the site does not work:

  1. go to www.poetry.com

  2. Type in my real name: first: Manuel last: Armenteros

  3. Click on whatever poem you choose
    I would like to know:

a) Do you like any of them?

b) If so, how can I publish them in a legit way? If not, state you reasons. No offense will be taken.

Since you’re asking for honest opinions, I’m not going to try to tone this down. I read five or six, and honestly, they struck me as being a bit trite. They don’t have the sort of lyrical expression that is a large part of my enjoyment of poetry, and more than once I felt that you were trying too hard to rhyme things, making it sound (if you’ll forgive me) a little juvenile.

You might also want to have them looked over by a proofreader - there were several grammatical and spelling mistakes that also detracted from my enjoyment. With some of them, I also felt there really wasn’t a focus, a point you were trying to make; of course, it’s entirely possible I just missed the point entirely.

I hope I haven’t been too harsh, but I must confess I wasn’t very taken by them.

Heartfelt but clunky, and yes, a bit trite. But pay no attention to that opinion. I’m not you, and my judgement of your poems is entirely beside the point. If a poem gives you pleasure that’s *all * that matters.

poetry.com is a joke. I submitted a Dylan Thomas poem and was told I was a winner. Then I submitted the output from a random word generator and that was “selected” as a “winner” as well.
