Now it seems like every 3rd thread in GD is started by her. She will tire and fade away. It would be a shame to lose a poster like you and replace it with a shill like stoidela.
I understand your anger at stoidela, but I think the ire directed at the mods is a LITTLE misplaced. Trash her a little more in the pit and then forget about her.
I’d wanted to avoid the poster-moderator skirmishes that seem to be breaking out everywhere lately, but this is just too damn much.
From what I understand, Gaudere’s problem with ExTank was that he had insulted Stoidela in a GD thread, specifically with the words “frothing little goober”. Okay, directed insults aren’t allowed outside (and, judging from some recent rumblings from above, not even INside) the Pit; I do believe we’re all cool with that.
Then this thread began, in, as I recall, MPSIMS. Before the thread was moved to the Pit, manhattan posted a directed insult to ExTank. That is, unless you can somehow construe “ExTank displays idiocy” as complimentary or not directed at ExTank.
So, simple question: are the moderators above their own rules? Do y’all get to use a different playbook? I realize it ain’t our house and all, but I’m sure I’m not alone in saying that we mere posters would appreciate at least a pretense of fairness. Perhaps an up-front notice that we are subject to unfettered moderator insults in forums where responding in kind would be inappropriate? How about “WARNING: you may argue with moderators, but only with both hands tied behind your back”?
I hope they don’t ban you, ExTank. I’ll miss you when all the leftists like Stoidela start spreading misinformation and propaganda in a gun-control debate. Hang in there and fight the good fight.

You’re right of course. His comment comparing posting in the proper forum to Vietnam protests was too stupid and over-the-top to ignore, but I should have let the topic come to this forum before commenting on it.
I agree with the taking a step away for a week plan. I was getting a little wound up about the whole election thing and Stoidela. I took a break from posting.
And then I came right back in when I saw the pit thread:)

When one of our forum members exhibits bad behavior, we try to correct that bad behavior, not only for that member but for all our members. We have several ways of dealing with it, including talking to the offender privately and dealing with the problem publicly.
Manhattan chose to speak publicly about a problem on the board with a poster. It’s within his purview to do so, as it is for all moderators and adminstrators on this board. This is part of what we do; consider us the monitors of this little playground.
You can disagree with what we do and how we do it, but characterizing it as unfair is, well, unfair and misstates our meaning and purpose. It’s the nature of the enforcement beast. Whatever our rules and however we enforce them, there will always be someone that sees this site from a different perspective and I don’t know that we can ever moderate to their satisfaction.
And it’s not “unfettered . . . insult” either; to the contrary. Our mods show amazing restraint in some very trying situations. Working on this site often means holding your tongue in a lot of places and times when users have free rein. Again, that’s the nature of the beast and it’s what we have to accept to work here.
I hope this explanation is sufficient. And if you’re still not pleased, well, you’re in the right forum for venting about it.
Heck, Tuba, I know that the moderator’s job is largely thankless, I just wanted to make sure that the rules for calling one another “stammering half-wits” applied to everyone, mods and proles alike.

Thanks! I’m trying to maintain my Pit thread lead among mods, but lately I haven’t had anybody pissed off enough at me to start one. Manhattan has, in particular, been threatening that lead.
Hopefully, more people will listen to you and I can make sure I go into the new year with a solid lead.
