I am now a Contributing Editor for the Optical Society of America’s journal Optics and Photonics News!
This is one of those magazines you can’t usually pick up at the local 7-11, or even the local big-city news stand. If you’re lucky, you could maybe find a copy at the local college or university.
There’s an on-line version at http://www.osa-opn.org/ , but, unfortunately, you can’t view any of the articles unless you’re a member. Hell, I’m a member, and I can’t even open the articles.
I’m editing the Light Touch column. I’ve already edited two columns by others, but the current one is the first one I’ve written myself. I intend to pull it away from its current stand as a site for explanations of Lecture Demos and the like, and to turn it back to Weird, Interesting Optics written with a Humorous Touch. Kinda like my Teemings columns, but with more physics.
So, if you ever manage to run across an actual, accessible copy, let me know what you think.
And I picked up Optics and Photonics News at the corner newsstand just last week. They had that cover story on Gwyneth Paltrow’s Applications for Electronic Terahertz Technology.
Congratulations from a fellow editor and Massachusettsian. Or is it Massachusettsite? Massachusettser? What do they call us, anyway? And the first person who comes out with Masshole is toast. (Freedom toast, of course. )
Congratulations from a fellow editor, j.g. (I’m the copy editor, as well as a reporter and a columnisht at a small daily newspaper, so I suppose “contributing editor” could describe me as well.)
I suspect yours carries a somewhat greater cachet. Use it wisely and for the powers of good in the universe.

Does this mean you’ll get hot and steamy letters from opticians who did it with co-eds ?
Dear Editor,
I’ve been an optician for ten years and have have a suggestion to help other opticians have at least ten hummers a day. My secret? Change the Eyechart to read:
