i'm BROKE =[

so i did something really stupid. allow me to explain.
green day has been a favorite band of mine for about 10 or 11 years now. my brother is also a HUUUUUGE fan himself.

since he got sent away last year to a boarding school for his behavior, he really missed out on a lot of good concerts that i was able to attend/work at. so i told myself that i would take him to see a REALLY good show when the right band would come around. at first i got him an Avenged Sevenfold ticket, but thought to myself “nah, i can sure as hell top that.”

in comes green day.

they announced about a week ago that they had added a southern california date: 10.08.05
and so now i thought, YES! avenged dont got sh*t on this!
so i had my eyes peeled out for any pre-sale purchase i could make. luckily i was on the local Goldenvoice [the company that manages the event] street team, as well as the local radio station street team, so access to a presale wasnt a problem. i decided to go ahead with a presale purchase this past thursday because i knew that on saturday morning [the official date of the sale] i wouldnt be able to due to a staff training workshop that i needed to attend.

so i purchased tickets. crappy seats for a presale [assigned seating for an arena show], but i got tickets even though the pit had sold out completely[i usually prefer pit tickets or not going at all].
i planned on surprising my brother with these tickets for his 18th birthday [his birthday is coming up in August, so the tickets will still be good before they actually need to be put to use]

i had a sufficient amount of spending money in my bank account, and i had set that money aside for something GOOD,something worth spending my money on… so a birthday gift for my brother seemed like something i could spend my money wisely on. besides, its his favorite band, and i’d give anything to see him smile.

then today i find out that the show [i bought tickets for] sold out. so it was a good thing that i bought them in advance, right?
wrong.
they added a second date, and the pit tickets i oringinally wanted were now AVAILABLE for that second show.
so what does my dumb a** do? i thought to myself, “i can buy the pit tickets that are available and sell my other ones to someone else who wants to go to the show.”
and without even THINKING, i made the purchase in a heartbeat, not really thinking about how my bank account would wind up, or if i’d spend the money that i had set aside for my USA uniform [a summer camp instructors uniform that i had $200 aside for]. keep in mind that the purchase i’m making is a DEBIT CARD purchase.
so i go to the bank right after i confirm the purchase, just to make sure i had a certain amount, or if i even overdrew my complete account for that matter, because i sure as hell knew that my uniform money was no more.

and so i go, but see that the transaction to my second purchase hasnt gone completely through. either way i’m broke because i’m barely over 200. the tickets cost me 132. O_o
maaaaaaan. so now i have 4 tickets to a show, 2 of which i’m going to keep, and about 250 dollars less richer than i originally was and NO UNIFORM MONEY.

luckily my uniform purchase was a credit card purchase, and not debit. and chances are i probably wont have a good amount in my bank account again until around july when i start teaching at spirit camps.

but its the thought that counts, right?

Green Day rules!

Ok, yep, you’re already beating yourself up about it, so I’ll just wish you good luck with selling the first tickets instead of lecturing. Maybe you can pick up some overtime or something to help replace the uniform money?

But they do give good show, so yay!

Well, I saw Green Day in '94, and the show was awesome. We didn’t even have seats remotely close to the stage, as the venue has a covered pavillion with a grass lawn outside it, and we were on the lawn. Didn’t matter, though…great concert, and we also had a ‘sod war’ where thousands of chunks of lawn went flying. I don’t think the people at the venue were too pleased with the crowd, and at one point it was so bad that our group just ducked under a blanket to avoid being pelted with dirt, but it was still a blast. At least you’ll remember the show forever now!

I remember seeing Green Day in a teeny, tiny venue (the Repblik, for those in town) many, many moons ago.

Honestly, I’ve had the opportunity to see them many times since, but I know it just wouldn’t compare.

i’ve seen video clips of a show where they would actually throw the mud back at the audience. what show was it [where]?

That was Woodstock 94. I saw them at that show. I thought they were excellent, in spite of the fact that the show was cut just a bit short because of all of the chaos, and we waited what seemed like forever for them to come on after a few groups (which we thought were one) played before them.

My sister and I were covered head to toe in mud, I was damn near sure I’d go blind from it getting in my eyes, I had to pee, I was sliding around all over the place while people jumped off the stage right into me (and I returned the favor) and mud was flying everywhere. It is one of my most favorite memories.

That entire weekend was great, but Green Day was the highlight.

Yeah, just sell the other pair of tickets. You can probably break even, and if you’re lucky, you could even profit a little bit!
