I'm building myself a PC!

Yup, I decided that my craptop is no longer adequete for my needs (nor was it ever.) I have begun the process of putting together my own, custom PC. I have already ordered the CPU, motherboard, memory, hard drive, and video card. I still need to get a case w/ power supply, CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive, a monitor, and a keyboard (I already have a mouse.) I’m going to hold off on the soundcard for a bit to see if the built in one on the motherboard will meet my needs. I’m not an audiophile, so it probably will.

My processor is an AMD Athlon XP 1900, the motherboard is an FIC AD11-XP SOCKET-A, and I got 512 MB of PC2100 DDR SDRAM. The video card is a Visiontek Xtasy Geforce4 Ti4200 64MB DDR DVI TV Out. The hard drive is a 120GB 7200 RPM IBM HDD. So far I have spent ~$670. I think I’m making out pretty good price wise, though I am overbudget on what I originally had things priced.

Wow! I admire people who do this. Hope it all works out.

Sweet machine. Best of luck to you. Yeh, the price is stupendous.

I was going to build a PC too until I found an Athon XP 1800 on eBay. I don’t know how that company does it, either they have a massive discount or they’re losing quite a bit on each system. I figure I saved about $400.

Well, I bought my monitor today. A 19" flatscreen Envision EN-980e. The price was $190 at CompUSA after a manufacturer mail-in rebate. I also got a keyboard and network card…$15 for the board, andf $5 for the card after a rebate. Now I just need a case and a CD drive of some sort.

Wow, there must be some sort of bug going around lately. Check out:
