I'm calling it: Obama is Jimmy Carter, and he is finished!!!!!!!!!

I VIVIDLY remember that crisp autumn day in November 1980. I was 20 years old. The “official” unemployment rate was about 6%, but realistically that’s because a lot of folks unemployment benefits had run out. The actual rate was about 12%. The local Dairy Queen would have a part-time position open and 300 adults 40+ years old would show up to apply. Inflation was over 14% and a gallon of gas was more than double what it had been 4 years prior. I was one of the first people in line at the polling place to vote him out of office that day.

Jimmy Carter was/is a good man. I mean that. He truly wanted what was best for The United States. Unlike [IMHO] the Clintons or the Obamas he didn’t hate America.

But, like Obama, Carter inherited a bad economy, and then made it worse.

Why?

Because he didn’t know WTF he was doing, that’s why. He failed because his ideas and policies sucked ass. They didn’t work, and they would have never worked at any other time in history, past, present, or future. .

What I also recall is how the otherwise liberal/Democratic leaning media turned against him. Political cartoons in the daily paper from late 1978 onward made him out to be a little boy. Sitting small in a big chair. A miserable failure.

In the last 2 months I’ve notice this happening to Obama.

Why does a rat jump off a ship? Because the rat knows the ship is going down, that’s why!!!

The policies, programs, ideas, laws and etc. endorsed by President Obama** DO NOT WORK!** And they are not going to work…EVER!

He’s done. Regardless of who the Republicans put up against him, he will not win reelection in 2012.

As someone who tends to vote Republican, I’ll just say this…

Never underestimate the ability of the Republican Party to shoot themselves in the foot.

Nobody is elected against what he could/should have been. They get compared to the other clown. And the Republicans have pushed their act into the realms of visible insanity. Maybe Obama appears to be over his head, the problem is that he appears to be far less over his head than any of the Republican candidates.

So, I have taken the liberty to make a reservation for you at “Chez Crow” for 2012…

If it’s Romney, Obama is in trouble. Perry or Bachmann will lose the independents and energize the Democrat base.

For the love of Christ.

Yep.

Contrary to popular belief Bill Clinton was very beatable in '96.
But not by Bob Dole.:(:rolleyes::mad::smack:…etc, etc, etc…!!!

But Obama is not Slick Willie, and Bob Dole is not running.

Obama…IS…DONE!

Bob Dole would be a better candidate than most of the people seeking the nomination though.

So, if Obama is Carter, who is Reagan?

Karger?

Except that it’s a different country now, with demographics that lean to the Democrats.

It appears that Obama will try to hang the jobs crisis on the Republicans as he barnstorms the country. With unemployment this high, any sitting President should be in danger, but I wouldn’t call it for the Republicans yet. Huntsman seems to be running for 2016, and he may be right.

Reagan nearly took the nomination away from an incumbent Republican president in 1976. Conservatives were wildly excited about him. Who is the analogue for 2012?

I don’t think you can safely posit a repeat of 1980 without another Reagan. Hell, Obama’s sure to win California, and that alone will give him more electoral votes than Carter got in '80. 2012 is going to be much closer than 1980.

Well, as long as Obama doesn’t have free reign to fly and talk.

He thinks he’s one of them fancy people, with their jet aeroplanes and speechifying and all.

Obama’s financial policies worked about as well as predicted. The beat in economist circles is that, had the stimulus been larger, we would’ve experienced real growth as a result, rather than just staving away disaster. Obama entered the white house in a time of severe depression, and he has not made things worse by any stretch of the imagination.

Nothing would please me more than to hear Republicans try to convince themselves that 2012 will be a replay of 1980. Such self-deception makes running against them so much easier.

Well, this isn’t exclusively a Republican trait. George W. was very beatable in '04, but not by John Kerry.

While I agree that Obama is definitely more vulnerable than the Democrats would like right now, the OP’s premise is a stretch at best. Obama is nowhere near as inept as Carter was, and there sure as hell ain’t no Reagan in this GOP field.

I would like to know what “hating America” even means. I was originally going to write “What the fuck does ‘hating America’ even mean?” but I thought that might be rude.

But seriously, what an asinine thing to say, and I distrust politicians as much as anyone. It’s very hard for you to have any credibility left when you tell me someone really, truly, “hates America”, without any explanation as to what it means or why they would hate this country.

I agree, and the excessive use of smilies, capitalization, colors and exclamation points doesn’t help his credibility much either.

Wow, an anti-Obama thread by a Republican. Pardon my surprise. Before you protest your non-Republican-ness or whatever, you have called Clinton “Slick Willie” and stated that both Clinton and Obama hate America. Both of these are emotional Republican talking points straight out of their playbook.

Boy, did Clinton hate America. Peace and prosperity were such a bitch. But then we got America loving Bush, and all the terrorist attacks, wiretapping, hyper-partisan politics and crashing economy. That stuff rocked!

Pray tell, what is the Republican campaign strategy for 2012? More jobs through MORE tax cuts for the rich? When will your side learn that Obama campaigns for office better than anybody? From now until Nov, 2012 it is going to be about jobs, and the R’s are going to hand Obama his first campaign win by delaying or not passing his job plan.

InTrade has Obama re-elect at 50.0. There’s a great opportunity to put your money where your mouth is.

Shocking. pkbites doesn’t think Obama is doing a good job? What has this crazy world come to?
