I'm concerned for Biden's safety tomorrow

This has been on my mind for the past few days now. We’ve seen what Trump supporters are capable of with the Capitol riots a few weeks ago, so now I’m genuinely concerned for Biden’s safety in his inauguration tomorrow.

What are your thoughts on this whole ordeal?

You’re not alone. Discussion ongoing here: Is Biden being foolish to insist on an outdoor inaguration? - #78 by Sherrerd

My biggest fear is infiltrators in the security force, and I agree that an outdoor inauguration for either of them is a very bad idea.

I mean, what is there to fear?

If Pence became president if something befell Biden, you’d have a point. But if something happens to Biden, Harris is president. If something happens to Harris, Pelosi is president.

Beyond that, I’m not sure since there isn’t an official Cabinet yet. Maybe some designated survivor. But there certainly wouldn’t be a Republican president, is what I’m saying.

This is the second thread where you’ve posted pretty much this exact thing.

A President (and a Vice-President) getting assassinated is certainly something to fear. Even if it is true that it would not mean that a Republican would suddenly become President, such a violent act would be a horrible thing, and not treated as cavalierly as you seem to be doing.

They just said on the evening news that a dozen Guard members were ejected from Capitol service after being vetted and a determination was made that they had too extremist right-wing views. Things are going to be so locked down that a rogue inside actor is probably the only thing to fear.

I’ve heard that. I’m even more concerned about the ones who don’t get caught ahead of time.

They were only capable of what they did after a rally with their Jesus. He PROMISED them he’d walk with them. (*Ha-ha, suckers. Again.) That bullshit ain’t happening at the inauguration, and there will also be the largest gathering of police/military in the area this side of Desert Storm. (Thanks, Republicans, you fuckwits!) So if we can’t protect Biden and Harris tomorrow, then the question becomes how we, as a country, are able to tie our own fucking shoes.

I feel like assassins or attempted assassins don’t consider the line of succession when setting their sights on the president.

Some of us would be very sad and angry if Biden was assassinated.

I mean… JFC.

Are you seriously asking what is there to fear from an American president getting assassinated? At a time when the country is already stretched to the breaking point? You can’t imagine it leading to anything troubling?

I mean, dude, seriously.

For a few years, people praises Begin and Sadat. But it was infiltrators into Sadats military which killed him.

Maybe if it was hinted that there were discussions about summary executions of all people Trump pardoned if there is an assassination (including Trump)?

I would very much hate it if it were to happen, but I am not concerned at all because of the overwhelming amount of security in place. I don’t think anyone is going to get close enough to do anything.

There will be protests and possibly some low-level mayhem a comfortable distance away but nothing that puts him in in danger.

We had Governor Walker at our factory some years back. Agents came the day before to understand the layout, and look for places someone with ill intent could hide. It was interesting talking to them. The day of the visit they were “on” and not interested in talk.
The Secret Service have their own snipers so they know were a assassin would have to be to get a shot off.

I would assume that the security people are assigned to work in pairs or groups, with the individuals having no say in who they are assigned to work with. So any rogue actor would be likely to be taken down by his “buddy” before doing anything regrettable.

This is the same way parking meter money collectors work.

But there’s one big difference between Muslim fanatics and American fanatics: the whole concept of martyrdom , suicide attacks, and jihad…
American society has none of that baggage.

American “patriots” call themselves good ol’ boys, proud boys, etc. They act tough, carry guns in public; they talk about revolution, civil war, and big military operations …but they don’t talk about suicide and sacrificing themselves for their ideology.

A rogue soldier in the National Guard might be a fanatic Trump believer…but he’s unlikely to want to commit suicide for the great cause of the Boogaloo movement. If he starts to aim his gun at Biden, the guy who would kill him would be a member of his own platoon. No glory there.

Do I believe that where violent brainwashed fanatics are concerned globally… that it’s the home grown American version who are the most selfish and entitled pricks…?

I think you could twist my arm and get me to admit that…

I remember in 2009 being afraid Obama wouldn’t survive the inauguration.

President Biden is going to be fine.

See, 10 years ago I wouldn’t have even questioned this. Maybe even 1 year ago. But I’ve heard people say on camera “I would die for my President.”

I expect most of them are just posturing or lying, but with that many striking that kind of pose, there’s a good chance at least one of them is in it for more than just trolling the libs.

Oh, how could I forget, we did have the car-bomb guy in Nashville that we’ve utterly forgotten about because of the other terrorist attack.

My thoughts exactly. If Obama was able to go unscathed for 8 years I’m pretty sure Joe will be just fine.
