I'm doing my bit to stimulate the economy. You?

Bought an iPhone in January (and I buy something from the app store about once every two weeks,) both a new motherboard and RAM for my computer last month, and I WAS going to buy a TV yesterday, but the Costco near me didn’t have the sweet deal I read about that other Costco’s had (42" Westinghouse LCD TV for $599! And a 2 year warranty, and 90-day NO QUESTIONS ASKED return policy! I was very mad they didn’t have it.)

Mom’s TV has been going bad for months, but she won’t go get a new one.

Yesterday I went a bought her a 32 inch flat screen.

I flew round trip to NYC a couple of weeks back and just bought round trip tickets to Tulsa for next month.

Oh, and today I bought soup for lunch even though I brought a sandwich. I didn’t want the sandwich anymore for some reason.

As part of my moving-out-in-a-year plan, my shed of a garage is being demolished and replaced with a 22’x22’ double garage. My first quote puts that at ~$25,000; I figure that outta keep a few people employed.

The sliding glass door broke, so we stimulated the home improvement industry.

The boyfriend contracted cellulitis, and has no insurance, so we’re stimulating the pharmaceutical and health care rackets. In fact, we’ll be stroking them slow and low for months to pay it all off.

One vehicle is old and the other is newish with weird electrical gremlins, so we’re helping our local auto repair shop pay their mortgage.

We’re planning a wedding in a few months, which seems to mean hemorrhaging cash.

I’m expecting my personal thank you from the White House any day now.

Sadly, the best thing about a shit economy is that things get cheaper. Since nothing has effected me, I’ve got a trip to Puerto Rico, two designer dresses, roughly ten pairs of shoes in the past two months, tons of wedding presents courtesy of someone I know getting married every single weekend (the Puerto Rico trip is for a wedding, but I’m not complaining about that destination!), and the $755 I just gave to the government (and considered myself very lucky), and the $200 I gave to the Red Cross since they are already spouting off about the upcoming hurricane season on the news, I think I’m doing my small part. Oh, and keeping restaurants alive in Houston, since my cooking tastes like poo.

The stupid Lexxus is going into the shop soon. It’s a 99, I’m not balling in some new beauty, but the sensor went out, I bought that tiny piece for $140, thinking I got off lucky. Yeah, except I forgot that someone has to put it in. Who knows how much that will cost, because you have to lift the car to do it, and I don’t have lifting capabilities in my condo’s parking lot.

Alice the Goon, except for the single mother bit, and the no smoking, I am in your situation. I have savings!! This is so exciting! And believe me, I feel extremely fortunate every step of the way.

We recently paid cash for a new Lincoln. We also purchased a sculpture for a few thousand a couple of weeks ago. One of my kids bought a new house a couple of weeks ago, and the other refinanced hers yesterday. I also spent 300 on a couple of pairs of shoes from zappo.com. There. I’m doing my part.

I’m stimulating a welder to convert my colander-like 21 year old Suzuki Samurai into something that will hold water again! I’m working up to replacing the soft top which was thoughtfully stolen by some bugger as soon as I bought my NEW (only 10 year old) Suzuki Samurai. Of course they stole the top of the new jeep - so now I’ve got the ratty top on the nice one.

Tomorrow as long as it doesn’t rain I’ll be stimulating a carpenter who’s building my humble 18 x 18 shack - at which point I will stop stimulating the landlord - yeay!

I’ll find out on Tuesday if I’ll be getting a bank loan to finish my dwelling - I’ve bought materials for the main frame, windows, doors etc, but can’t afford the roof, septic tank or bathroom stuff - if I don’t get the loan I’ll throw a tarp over it, dig a pit and move in, I’ve had it with rent.

And it wasn’t even Friday night! You’re living on the edge.

I spent $700 today on wood turning stuff.

Well, I stimulated the Native American economy. I spent $200 at the casino last weekend. Other than that, no. When I get my next pay and profit sharing next week, I will be paying off two credit cards though. Somehow, I don’t think that counts.

I will be taking not one, but two, trips to the US this year - first time that’s ever happened - which will not only stimulate the world economy, but which will help to reduce the US trade deficit.

You’re welcome.

As part of a long-planned stage of pullinSon’s flight training, we bought* him an airplane. It’s a small one though (only 4 seats, 1 engine). Does that count?
*technically, “leased-with-option-to-buy”.

We bought a new door and paid Door Dude $100 to install it. I also have two birthdays next week and my MIL’s birthday tomorrow, so I’ll fork over some gift cards so I can stimulate vicariously through my loved ones.

I plan to stimulate my garden in about a month, to the tune of a hunnert bucks or so.

Howdja manage that? (Most of us have to settle for just one). :stuck_out_tongue:

I bought a NetBook and shortly after that had to replace my water heater. I’m planning on doing some landscaping work as soon as I figure out exactly what I want to plant in place of what’s already there.

I got into an accident with my 7 year old Toyota Corolla about two months ago. Not only did I buy a new car, but it’s an SUV, which I’ve never had before and it’s an American one at that. …an '08 Ford Escape.

I’ve been eating out more than I should, so in a sense, but not intentionally. I’m otherwise doing what I can to spend as little as possible and leaving the stimulus of the economy to the government and the rest of you.

We are doing all the improvements on our current house that we have put off for the last couple of years. Painting, replacing carpet, putting in hardwood on the first floor. Home Depot and Lumber Liquidators are being stimulated. Landscaping is next, I have big plans for the summer.

The hubby took a weekend trip to Stowe for his last of the season skiing.

I plan on buying myself some shoes/new clothes this weekend.
