I'm done with tuna sandwiches

This is why I can’t stand tuna sandwiches. My mom would never drain the tuna sufficiently and consequently I’d eat the tuna salad and throw the wet, nasty bread in the trash. It scarred me for life.

I went on a big tuna melt binge last winter, eating a few a week for a couple months. I don’t expect this craving to reoccur soon but I’ll be ready in case it does.

You’re missing out on the free tuna water beverage! Tangy!

That called cat water.

Absolutely. One of my cats comes running every time I use a can opener because she thinks I’m opening a can of tuna and she’s getting that yummy drink. :smile_cat:

All you need for tuna salad is tuna and Miracle Whip. The expensive Italian tuna and tuna packed in oil taste better but I only buy the cheaper stuff in water because it is burned into my brain that it saves unnecessary calories. I also add a can of tuna to Kraft Mac and Cheese and it totally improves it. The cats of course get the tuna water. The meowing when they smell it is deafening. I try to limit them because of the mercury but nothing else has made them as happy. They will practically knock the bowl out of my hand when I am trying to put it down for them.

I’ve always used pre-sliced bread. I’m trying a pita next time. Might even try adding the mashed cannellini beans.

Not sure about the fresh tomato, but I do sometimes add a tomato before putting it in the oven. But I also like a slice of tomato in a grilled cheese sandwich.

I made myself a tuna salad sandwich for lunch every weekday for four years when I was in high school. I really didn’t get tired of it but if I wanted to mix it up a bit I would take some potato chips and put them IN the sandwich. I really like tuna salad to this day. But now it gives me indigestion. Sigh. As my sainted aunt used to say, “Golden Years my ass.”

I enjoy a nice tuna salad sandwich on occasion. When I mix the tuna up with diced celery & onion and mayo, I add a spoonful of grated horseradish out of a jar- gives it a bit of a kick.

And I’m in big trouble if I don’t drizzle all the tuna water over their big bowl of kibble, big trouble, many stares and glares.

Yeah, the fresh sliced tomato on top of the hot browned cheese is messy. I like the acidity that cuts through the richness of the cheese and tuna but roll up your sleeves because it’s going to be running down your arms.

I was thinking with mini-marshmallows but you win.

This…the only way to call a cat is the can opener. My husband bought tinned tuna that was the mixed light and dark meat. I hate that. It has to be white albacore in water ONLY!

It’s tuna fish at my house.

ill raise you one courtesy of county state (Indiana)and federal rationings board circa 1942 … a sandwich I’ve eaten off and on for years the "mock ham salad " sandwich which is pretty much tuna salad but made with shredded chunk bologna and if you don’t do it right well its a salt mine …

One thing i can’t seem to make right when i make it from scratch is tuna noodle casserole … mom made it with noodles tuna and cream of mushroom soup …when i make it the noodles just suck up the soup all the way and it doesn’t get creamy …

Solid white is the only tuna I can stand. Anything else is catfood grade to me.

Coincidentally, for lunch I brought in a can of tuna and some mayo packets with a hope of making a barely tolerable tuna salad. Problem was I brought way too few packets. But I had also brought in a sizeable guacamole package. So I used both the mayo and the guac and the resultant tuna salad was really good. I may make this my go-to recipe.

Ya gotta put grated cheese, chopped fresh mushrooms, Frozen peas an scrambled raw egg. Sprinkle fried onions on top. Back until done.

I don’t mind a tuna salad sandwich – probably because I ate them a lot growing up – but they get boring after a while. Working at home part of the time now, and being a bit lazy, I decided to try some of the pre-flavored tuna packed in pouches. Some of them are decent, but they all have a strong lemon/citrus taste (it’s used as a preservative, I think). I can’t figure out why they tend to make me sick though. :frowning:

My favorite kitchen utensil!

I wouldn’t mind having one of those. I hate squeezing the can lid, and if the water doesn’t squirt on you, it oozes over the lid then seeps back into the tuna all nice and germy. That’s my least favorite part of making tuna salad.

Now that’s a cool invention. There’s a gadget for everything. If only I could find it in my giant drawer full of gadgets; first world problems.
