Yes. Finally. A bum no longer, I now get to work for H&R Block as a financial adviser.
Yeah, I know, I’ve got no experience or expertise. They’re teaching me.
There’s an apprentice-type program I’m going through. A guy I play racketball with referred me to it and the rest is history.
I’ll miss the sleep, but I’ll like the money.
It’s about frickin’ time. I get a job posting from the place I interned at last year (almost exactly last year) saying they’re looking for the position that I did before. They, instead, want me to come back in for a second internship. You snooze, you lose, I suppose.
Yay! Congratulations! Financial advisor, eh? That’s cool. Nothing wrong with starting “real life” at 26. That’s still plenty young.
Just to chime in…I am re-entering the work force at 38. I took the last 4 years off to be a stay-at-home-mom and discovered that that is not my true calling. Kiddo is entering 4th grade this year and I’ve decided to go back to work. I start this coming Wednesday as, get this…Marketing assistant for a very prestigious engineering firm in Nor Cal. Have I ever done this type of work before? Um, no! Why did they hire me? A friend of mine recommended me for the job and apparently they liked me even though I had no experience. They will be training me.
Ah, well, once again…Good luck and congratuations in your new job!
Maybe I’ll even buy the tin can before I kick it! No more free tin cans for me!!!
Thanks much, you and Rhiannon. Much luck to you in your new gig as well.
And yes, 26 is old. Dammit, I’ve gotta make up for lost time. I still need to go through my “snorting cocaine off of a stripper’s tits” phase.
I always thought it was a “hooker’s ass.” Anyway, I think I missed that phase myself.
Congrats on the new job! I don’t think 26 is old. A lot of my friends are in their mid-20s and are still bumming around with part-time stuff, unwilling to tie themselves down. Either that or they’ve just recently joined the workforce.
Congratulations, LOUNE! (…and yes, I’m jealous.) Tonight, you should celebrate!
(May I recommend some Moet, lightly chilled, in flute glasses with a significant other?)
Personally, I’m getting few responses except in CS (and none of them in management). There is a position in a small tech firm I’m trying super hard for and I have a second interview next week. Its a step back for me, but its small firm, amazingly competant, and everyone inside I saw was truly professional. Plus, all the higher ups have been promoted from within, which cuts back on the ‘back-stabber poser’ influx. My boss, if I get it, would be really cool: ex-military, good under pressure, and we got along great from the first handshake.
Hey, I’m a classy individual. Either I go with “snorting a line of coke off a urinal” or off a stripper’s tit.
I’m working on tying myself down. Dammit, I want some flippin’ stability!
I’m mildly disappointed…I haven’t been told to get back to contributing to Social Security yet…
Hm. Outside of me not drinking and being single, your method of celebration intrigues me. Maybe I’ll share a Milk Bone biscuit with a pair of cute beagles.
Good luck, sir. What kind of computer science are you? Programmer, developer, other? Consider my fingers crossed for your chances, dear sir.
Well, I thought it over by way of how it was presented to me. This job foreplay has been going on for about two weeks. I knew about the details of it for a little over a week.
Oops. And for the record, Milk Bone is much better for beagles than Moet. Even if they ask for it by name, your plan is best.
The CS I typed was short for customer service (CRM?). I started my career with it, but I also have logistics experience, financial experience, and SOX experience (its an Act passed in 2003, not a ball team). While I was hoping to build on them, the responses thus far have been slow. Still, a place has to have a good vibe to it and to be honest, the last place I worked was starting to always feel like there were blood and sharks in the water. Lucent had that ‘good vibe’ early in 1997, and this place seems much the same way (and it does play to my logistics skills). Plus, Bush could repeal SOX and disband the PCAOB tomorrow.
