Thank you for responding and yes, I mean the same Dogma.
Bethany ends up believing in God and meeting God.
Cardinal Glick is played for laughs but is not a bad man and they stayed away from cheap pedophile jokes. The Smoking line was more a rip on Tobacco companies that the RCC. Glick was actually a minor parody of a real problem the church has, attracting and retaining young people. This is a major concern at many of the Bishop meetings from my understanding. Kevin Smith is aware of this and is far more of a Catholic than I am. (I was only baptized).
Most of your quotes are from the very beginning of the movie, the characters developed a larger sense of faith than almost any other movie out of Hollywood and yet this movie was protested against and strangely not by the RCC but some weird Baptist group protested it sight unseen.
You saw condemnation; I saw light and occasionally gross humor but a sense of reverence and belief. Despite this, I still enjoyed the movie immensely.
Then we lose. And we die. Radical Islamic Fundamentalism is not about destroying Israel. It’s not about driving the west out of the ME. It’s not about ruling Iran, or Saudi or even all of the ME. Radical Islamic Fundamentalism is about forcibly subjugating all of humanity to their belief system. If we run away, leave the ME completely, recall all our soldiers, abandon Israel to it’s fate, cut off trade, seal ourselves up behind the oceanic barriers that separate the Americas from the rest of the world, they would still come after us, because that’s what their twisted version of Islam demands of them. Before long they’d be coming after us with nuclear weapons, and conventional deterrents will not work because for most if not all of the people who follow Radical Islamic Fundamentalism, their death doesn’t bother them, in fact it’s something for them to strive towards. The only solution is to contain them, oppose their plans, kill them when we can and nurture more moderate factions of Islam to replace them until they are relegated to a tiny, tiny faction much like the Westboro Church is here in the US.
I love the movie too. Of course Bethany ends up believing in God. Kind of hard to doubt She exists when you meet Her face to face!
Occasionally gross humor? Jay was disgusting throughout, hilariously so.
I love the movie. Every time it’s on I have to watch it and still laugh. It does make you think about faith and the messages passed around in the name of organized religions.
I just think that character assassination of Catholics is perceived as OK by the media. I don’t know. Maybe I’m over sensitive to it, but I have seen it too many times. Let me think about it and I’ll provide you with examples.
I do live in an area with a lot of mid easterners. They can not tell me what it is like to live there now. There is this thing called the internets. You can get blogs .

It is hard to believe the shit storm we have them living in. They spend very little time worrying about Israel.Getting an envelope nailed to your door with a bullet and a note saying it would be a good time for you to move. No fun. These are just people trying to survive a mess we handed them.
Sure, sure and a few days ago you knew my web-browsing habits. I gotta tell you, you’re stalking the wrong guy. Still, better him than me.
Anyway, there isn’t but a lick of sense in the logic of your post. Take this:
Who said anything about unfair? Devious and tactical, yes. Unfair doesn’t come into it.
No, this is where the whole unfair bit happens: For normal trolling, like say [some normal troll], the question here is “is [s-n-t] trolling”? If so, naughty, naughty.
However there are 2 exceptions, at least:
1 - Is [s-n-t]'s trolling attacking Arabs and or Islamic people ? Then they are beyond the reach of mods. Similarly;
2 - Is [s-n-t]'s trolling defending Israel ? Likewise, moderation immune.
I was referring to post 23 which referenced you. I never actually stated you made racist comments and I was out of line if it appeared that I was inferring that about you. I am truly sorry.
A devastating rejoinder. It is obvious, as with trolling, that you are guilty of the very behavior you pretend to see in others.
But then, the world of Sevastopol is a dark and malign one, full of Stalkers, Outside Agencies and Sinful Moderators, who all have one thing in common - recognition that you are a useless twit.
Interesting. I am a devout Catholic and I saw the movie as ultimately pro-Catholicism. It acknowledges narrow-mindedness and stagnation in the Church with the intention, I thought, of provoking thought about how to correct those problems. Constructive criticism, in other words.
