Finally - back in Atlanta (1999-2002), I just went with two phone lines. In Knoxville, I was in grad school and perpetually broke, so I stuck with a single line.
Now, I’m going with cable internet - I moved here in early September, and I’m finally breaking down and getting it. This also means I can dump msn altogether, and that thrills me. I thought about DSL, but in this area that seems to mean SBC, and I already hate them as a phone company. I sure don’t want to deal with them as an ISP too.
They’re coming Saturday to hook it up. Sure, I’ve got a window of 8-4, so I may be stuck at home all day, but I’m ok with that. Plus, it’s only going to be $5 a month more than my dial up - after the 6 month special runs out ($12.95/month & free installation, no contract of any sort). For those first six months, I’ll actually be saving money with the cable internet.
High speed internet compared to dialup is like microwave ovens compared to regular ovens. “Come On…I HAVEN’T GOT ALL SECOND!!!”
My internet costs what my phone bill used to, so I’m giving SBC’s money to Time Warner and using a cell phone exclusively.
Don’t miss the land line yet (over 6 months).
High speed internet restored my faith in God. If it was a choice between high speed and clothing, I’d see what kind of cable internet access they had in the nearest nudist colony.
