I'm getting morphine.

Hi Everyone!!! I’m back and pleased to say I survived surgery!!!Yeah!! The hospital stay itself almost killed me. God I hate that place. I was so sick two days after surgery that’s when they ending up giving me two units of my own blood that I had reserved for surgery.I practally had to insist on going home Friday, because I hadn’t slept in the bed from hell for more than 3 hours in 3 days. I kid you not, even with Vicodine and the so called sleeping pills (benadryl,oh please). I was able to use my walker well, and my x-rays were fine, or I wouldn’t have been released no matter what.As soon as I came home my recovery immediatly started to excellerate. I was able to eat, sleep, and here I am only home two days and I’m sitting typing at my computer (obviously a concern that didn’t ferret out.)I’m just so pleased to be home and reading this message board. Thank you everyone for your well wishes!

Tina

The operation? Well, now I walk like a duck, but I won’t sue 'cause I’m getting a lot of laughs.

Welcome back, Tina!

You’re right. A hospital is no place to be if you’re feeling punk.

Glad to hear that you’re healing up nicely.

Rah, rah Qwispy! Glad to hear things turned out well, and welcome back to the Mother Board (er, I meant Message Board)!

Wow I didn’t see your original post.I had a total hip replacement on the 14th. I also had a type of displacia. the ball and socket were worn so my leg was 1" shorter. I couldn’t stand on it anymore. I was in for 5 days. I’m a lot younger than most hip replacement people.
I know what you mean about not sleeping. It was because I got so much at wierd times that I couldn’t sleep for any length of time.
Thank heavens for SDMB. It gave me something to do.
I could only sit for a few minutes because my calf and foot would swell up.Then back to bed and elevate my leg again. I’d usually fall asleep again not a good thing because I wouldn’t sleep at night. Again thanks for SDMB.
I was on crutches for a long time before surgery. Thats probably why they let me use them if I wanted to. They are easier to get around on than the walker.
How long do they think you will have to use the walker?
I was on 2 crutches for two weeks.
then one crutch for about 3 days.
I’m walking now and trying to regain strength in my leg.
Every day I can notice some kind of improvement.
I don’t have any bad stories about the hospital. I guess that I was in such bad pain before surgery that it was such a relief to get it fixed.
Well there is that stuff they call food.I can’t figure what they do with the flavor.
Good luck
Ps Yesterday I walked 1 mile with just a cane That I call my moral support.

 Excellent news Tina!!! Thanks for updating us, and it’s wonderful that you’re doing so well, so quickly!!

“Muck should replace ‘suck’. For ‘muck’ is yucky, while ‘suck’ feels very lucky. So, don’t stay stuck on suck, switch to MUCK, today.”

Thanks all. Justwannano, in answer to your question I have to use the walker for at least 3 months it will take 6 months to a year to totally recover. From what I understand this surgery is a little worse than a THR but I was a perfect canidate because I’m 35 and the arthritis was just starting to show up in my hip, (although it’s already attacted my lower back thanks to the bum hip)The advantage over this surgery is that If didn’t get it I would have needed the new hip in as maybe as little as 5 years, and then due to my age I would probably have to get another hip in 10 to 15 years due to wear and tear. With what I’ve had done, God willing I will never need another surgery on my right leg. Yeah!!

Qwisp
I guess I was a little bit too cocky about how well I was doing.
I broke rule #1.
I crossed my leg over my good one.
I spent sunday afternoon in the Emergency room.
My hip poped out of place. I was haveing one of those casual conversations with my wife and unconsiously crossed the leg.
I couldn’t move. Couldn’t sit down so I got my very first ride in an ambulance.
We live in the country and the fire district we live in sent their first responders. They pulled up and jumped out and almost ran to the door. When they got in I was just standing there. If it had been a emergency they beat the regular ambulance by 5 minutes. The distance traveled is about the same.
Thanks Guys
At the Hospital they had to knock me out to put it back in place.
I have to remember not to cross my leg…I have to remember not to cross my leg…I have to remember…

I’m fine now .A little sore.Doc says keep doing what you are doing only don’t cross your leg.

Qwisp, I am so glad that you are recovering so well from this. I am sorry that I didn’t see this thread sooner. My hips are aching for you (that guy Arthr again), and I’m doubly glad to hear about how well you’re doing.

Justwannano, my sympathies to you as well.
<note to justwannano, DO NOT cross your legs, DO NOT cross your legs…>

ouch ouch ouch!

I am really glad you guys are ok!

And thanks for the brutal wisual of the leg crossing thing…

Ouch ouch ouch!

Poor justwannano. Are you okay now?? I’ve heard you can’t cross your legs at all with total hip replacement. Can you cross your ankles? I’ve caught myself doing it with out a problem.I don’t think it’s too wise with these huge screws in my pelvis though.

Thanks for the hugs Purplebear, I need them so much. They are so good for recovery.

Welcome, Qwisp. Any time at all. :o

Hugs are my specialty. Yes, they have amazing recuperative powers, don’t they?

Anyone else need one?

Yes Qwisp you can cross your ankles.I don’t think that you’re supposed to though.
Please don’t anyone have any Qualms about having the operation because of what I did. It was just one of those mindless things that happen.
I feel so much better than before the operation.
The Doc says that after I heal completely I will have even more mobility than I do now. Apparently scar tissue holds evervthing in place.I guess that it won’t let you move it beyond a certain point.
He also said keep doing your exercises.I guess 100 each at a time is not enough.

Hope you are all well and hang in there.

Yikes! I think I’ll just put off having my Prednisone-related hip rot dealt with for a looooong time yet…

Really, though, I’m pleased both of you are doing well, and sorry you didn’t have a better time in the hospital, Qwisp. Aren’t those plastic beds the worst? The room is freezing and you’re sweating to death. I’m glad you’re home and doing so well.

Go to a vet that’s also a taxidermist. Either way, you’ll get your cat back. Sig courtesy of the amazing WallyM7
