I'm going to a Brazilian steakhouse this Saturday. Advice, pointers?

You inspired us, so we went to Galpao Gaucho last night. We enjoyed it too. Compared to Fogo de Chao (our usual Brazilian steakhouse):

  • The parmesan pork wasn’t as good (too salty, but still tasty)
  • The filet was better (more tender)
  • All the other meats were about the same
  • The puffy cheese bread things were essentially identical (and yummy!)
  • The salad bar was comparable (no Swiss cheese slices, which I like, but they did have Brie and Gouda, so it was a toss-up)
  • The bacon-wrapped chicken was better (juicier)
  • The service was a bit too attentive. After about the ninth waiter showed up to see how we were doing (this was in addition to the meat guys), I had to ask them to tone it down so we could have a chance to chat without constant interruption. To their credit, they did back off quite a bit after that.
  • The ambiance was quite nice, and comparable to Fogo.
  • The price was about the same as Fogo.

Final verdict: We’ll probably go back to Fogo, mostly because it’s closer to home and the parmesan pork is better there. But Galpao Gaucho was an altogether pleasant and tasty experience.

You monsters.

I had a ‘steak and black bean’ thing for dinner a few hours ag, but there wasn’t a lot of beef in it.

Then I read this thread.

Had to go unthaw two little steaks wrapped in bacon, cook them up and eat them.

Seconded. Eat light on the appetizers (if that is your wish), and wait for the main course. No need to feel apprehensive. Enjoy your meal.
