So…I’m watching Dr. Phil and the heroin twins. They’re in their mid to late 20s or so, living on the street (in a graveyard, at times) whoring themselves for drugs, look like death warmed over, etc., etc.
So some therapist gets in there and hands the girls stuffed animals so they have something soft to hug when they need to.
What the fuck is that all about? This seems to me to be such empty-headed therapy fluff bullshit. They aren’t little children. They’re grown women who have lived hard lives, made bad choices, and nearly died in the process. Why would a therapist think they’d want anything to do with stuffed animals? And why would any self-respecting therapist think that little bit of placebo therapy should even be thrown into the mix when we’re trying to help some seriously fucked up people get their lives back on track?
And they’re getting all those things. Actually, Dr. Phil brought these two trainwrecks to the point where they could get INTO rehab through medical help, talk therapy, digging up dirt from the past, etc. I was impressed with the progress they made. I just don’t see how the stuffed animal fits into the equation.
Probably a situation where the parent thinks s/he can just pick up where they left off, as if the kids haven’t aged during the years they’ve spent apart. I was thinking wtf too though.
I just watched that clip not 30 seconds ago and yes it was the stepfather and his wife that gave them the toys. They want nothing to do with the girls because they have a 10 year old that they dont want exposed to drugs.
The girls said that they were going to send the toys back.
