I'm going to lose my mom soon

I’m so grateful to have older brothers right now. One of them came down this past week to take care of stuff, like taking my mom to the doctor and making sure she takes care of legal matters. She went to the oncologist, and apparently she’s developed an addiction to her pain pills and that’s a big reason why she’s losing weight and not interested in eating; then again, I’d probably have no interest in food if I were stoned out of my mind all the time. Other than that, they’ve seen a tiny improvement in the situation, but no real promise of “hope” until she gets weaned off such a high dose of pain pills. She’s been taken to see a lawyer to get all the legal stuff taken care of (will/power of attorney/etc.), and she’s going to go live with said brother who took care of all of this, which is great, as I don’t have to worry about her doing stupid stuff by herself. Sometime in the next few weeks, I’ll drive down to her house and clean things up and empty out the fridge, and if there’s much time after that, I’ll make some time to drive up to my brother’s place (12 hours away) to see my mom and them. We really don’t know how long she’s got, but we’re going to make it as good of a time as we can.

Irishgirl: My mom would scold me if I had flowers delivered; she thinks they’re a waste of money. (I sorta agree on that one.) Any time I go down to visit or take care of her, I spend a good amount of time cleaning her house and making it presentable for guests. I have no doubt that I’ll be doing the same when I get down there in a few weeks, although I won’t have anyone else around to clean it for, as she’ll be at my brother’s house.
