If Daewoo can’t even make a DVD player that works right, why the HELL would I buy a car from them?
Stupid piece of crap keeps freezing every 3rd frame, rendering most movies unwatchable. Well, if I’m patient and persistent enough, the right combination of opening and re-closing the tray, pressing pause and then rewind x8, then Menu Play and Play again will sometimes get the thing to work right. A few times, a well placed thump against the front left corner will magically do the trick. But if it works at all, it’s usually at least 20 minutes before I can finally watch a DVD without it freezing on me.
What really, really annoys the hell out of me is, it never does this with my mother’s Thai Karaoke VCDs, or the cheapo Thai-dubbed DVDs of mainstream movies that she brought back from Thailand. Nope, only the DVDs I actually want to watch will work. It gets to the point where “In the Beginning” in Thai actually starts to seem like a promising viewing choice.
If you heard a loud crash, followed by a thud, and a triumphant whoop of victory, you’ll know why.
Actually, you probably do own a Daewoo item. Nearly everything these days is outsourced, so the components are more likely to be made by one manufacturer who then slaps everybody else’s label on them.
In reading this, I couldn’t help but be reminded of this thread.
Well, I’d like something I can build more of a home theater from, and one of those multi-disc DVD players would be nice for multiple-disc films/series I’m watching.
Other than that…no particular reason, just more money to waste on crap I don’t actually “need”, I suppose.
Also, the kids would like it alot better…right now they can’t play games while their dad and I watch movies, unless I decide to watch movies on my computer (which I also do sometimes).
If I buy a dedicated DVD player, I can hook up the PS2 to the other TV and the kids can have at without needing to wait till I’m done watching stuff. =)
