I'm gonna be sick....or am I?

I made a small Prime Rib for dinner tonight. I decided to try something different and got a jar of (sp)Bernaise sauce to try on it. It was a brand-name I knew (as opposed to, say: Joe-Bob’s Bernaise sauce). Anyway, I spread a little of it on the meat, and after eating…maybe a tablespoon or so of it at most, decided it had a ‘tangy’ taste I didn’t like. I went back in the kitchen and noticed two or three things: #1)The inside of the lid had a sort of brown crust around the “rim” of the lid and the screw part of the jar and #2) The sauce (sort of a mayonaise consistancy) had “extruded” out of the jar. I found this disturbing.

This was about 15 minutes ago. Other than being a bit queasy about having eaten the the stuff, I don’t feel bad, but I’m fairly phobic about botulism.

Any input (other than the obvious that I shoulda made my own sauce)? Should I be worried?

“The classic symptoms of botulism include double vision, blurred vision, drooping eyelids, slurred speech, difficulty swallowing, dry mouth, and muscle weakness.”

"In foodborne botulism, symptoms generally begin 18 to 36 hours after eating a contaminated food, but they can occur as early as 6 hours or as late as 10 days. "

Now the good news.

How common is botulism?

In the United States an average of 110 cases of botulism are reported each year. Of these, approximately 25% are foodborne…"
