Last December. I decide that my little brother, big into computers and music (as I am, btw), would love some new kick-ass software as a Xmas present.

I do a bunch of web-surfing, and come across two pieces of software that look like just the thing. Damn, he’s gonna love these.

But none of the stores here in NY that I go to have those two packages (actually I did find a store that has them, but that was much later). No prob; I’m internat-savvy.

I find a particular website that says, “We are specialists in computer-based music and recording”. Very promising. In fact, the site is fairly comprehensive, and does indeed have just the two softwares I want. So I whip out my handy-dandy credit card.

Shortly after (maybe the same day, or the next), I get an email confirming my order. Comforting. It says, when your order ships, we will email a UPS tracking number, with which you can track your shipment at www.ups.com. Cool. Also, You will receive a printed invoice/receipt when your shipment arrives. Great.

A week passes. No package. No worries, it is still quite a bit before Xmas.

Two weeks pass. Still no package. I am a bit worried now. Make a phone call. Pleasant guy picks up, seems genuinly surprised to hear that the stuff hasn’t shipped yet, but not to worry, since my card isn’t billed until the order is actually shipped. He promises to send the stuff out that day

Another week passes. STILL no package. Another phone call. Do you see a pattern emerging here?

This goes on well into January. And then I get my December statement, and THE MOTHERFUCKERS BILLED BY CREDIT CARD FOR MERCHANDISE WHICH, TWO MONTHS LATER, I STILL HAVEN’T RECEIVED. :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad:

I am really getting seriously pissed, call AGAIN (I have the damn number memorized by now), and tell them to a) forget the damn order, and b) reverse the credit card charge. Mr. Pleasant apologizes profusely and promises to reverse the charges right away.

I just got my Jan statement today. Guess what.

Yep. THEY STILL HAVEN’T REVERSED THE CHARGES.

I called again just now and threatened to walking tall their asses if something isn’t done REAL SOON NOW.

I should name names to expose their guily-as-shit asses, but unfortunately I am trying to be a responsible 'Net citizen. Shit. Being irresponsible would be a hell of a lot more fun.

Doesn’t mean I can’t go into more detail in PRIVATE emails, of course…

Call your credit card company. By law, the merchant only has 30 days to ship your order or you can cancel the order and reverse the charges no questions asked. If you still want the software, just get it from somewhere else.

You don’t say which online retailer it was, but before using anyone for the first time, it’s always a good idea to check out their profile on websites where customers rate the service they receive from such companies. Two of the best sites for this are:

Just type in the name of the retailer, and you will see customer commets, problems, etc., etc. It’s really worth spending a bit of time find out who you’re buying from.

Yeah, just tell the credit card company you want to do a chargeback. They will immediately credit you the money, then send you the paperwork. They’ll do all the research from their end. Once, when Target.com overcharged me and I did the chargeback, I was only expecting to get the incorrect charge amount removed. They ended up removing the entire charge, so I got the items for free.

My next step is definitely to call the card company. I have all the emails I sent, and since I called from work, I have the recordings of all the phone calls :slight_smile:

You probably won’t need all that. Normally, the credit card company will presume your honesty and act as your advocate, unless there is something to the contrary that pops out at them.
