I'm hearing gunfire right now

Ah, but you can take comfort that another fine American tradition is flourishing. The excercising of a citizens rights or something …whatever.

I guess I should’ve been specific. I live in Richfield, which is a SW suburb of Mpls.

The Kenwood/Lake of the Isles/Lake Calhoun/Lake Harriet area is still pretty nice.

The Broadway area is not. While I wouldn’t be actually fearful of walking around any area in the Twin Cities late at night and by myself, there are some zones where I’d be a bit more cautious (Broadway, Powderhorn and Franklin Ave in Mpls; Selby-Dale and Frogtown in St. Paul).

I guess we Twin Citians don’t need to buy Kevlar parkas…yet.

Did you find out what the shooting was about yet?

Nope, but then I haven’t been watching the news.

Yikes, hope things are okay down there. We don’t have a lot of gun problems here, just the occasional small time drug war which has been going on for over a year now. Every few months there are drive bys but its most often in one area of town.

Richfield!

That’s about as due South of Minneapolis as you can get. Depending upon what part of it your in, it can get pretty bad down there too.

Sorry about the shoot-out, unless someone got hit, I doubt your going to read about it or see it on T.V…

I grew up in Minneapolis south of Minnehaha Falls…near the airport. Where I live is almost due west of there. That’s why I think of Richfield as west rather than south. Edina is west of me; Minneapolis is east, and north.

So I’m SW.

When I no longer hear gunfire, I know the bars are closed.

No offense intended Rysdad.

I was just surprised it was Richfield and not the Broadway area.

Ever find out what happened?

There used to be a gang in the neighbourhood. Or maybe it was a nearby neighbourhood. Several years ago it was fairly common to hear gunshots. A few times there was firing in the alley behind my apartment (and this isn’t all that bad a neighbourhood). I decided that the next time someone was shooting in the alley I’d call out, “Do you mind? People are trying to sleep!” But the situation has improved and I haven’t heard any violence for a long, long time.

I live in Bushwick, Brooklyn, where nightly I used to know when a drug deal went bad: by the blasting sound of an automatic, followed by the sounding of car alarms throughout a 1-mile radius because the shots were so loud. Now, I hear the gunfire only occasionally. Must be from another cop shooting.

Jeez, it cant be like that all the time over there can it?

Round here if someone opens a shook up can of coke it’s in the headlines.
Is it really that much part of the scenery that you’ve grown blase about it?

Sheeee-it, I hear gun fire all the time (well, mostly on the weekends) when the yeehaw redneck hillbillies are out shooting at god knows what. All I know is that it makes my dog very very nervous. I could only hope for a bunch of the Hatfeilds to shoot it out with the McCoys. The idiots are probably shooting squirrels cause “thems good eatin’” or " God told us to do it". Sorry , I’m raving.

However, the small ( 15,000 population) of Brandon Twnshp where I am, a couple of years ago, there was a guy who was actually on the FBI and Interpol Most Wanted List. Something about fraud and money laundering, IIRC, but I was like, " Here? In podunk? Land of No Pizza Delivery? We have a James Bond villian kinda guy? Get out!"
