Um… here I am , I suppose… waves I feel same as FCM…It’s so… Different.
There are many aspects I need to adjust to, but the white space bothers me in the least.
Right now it seems that the emojis no longer work.
Highlight the text in the post you want to quote and a “Quote” button will appear. Click it and a new reply box will appear including the quote. Type your message and hit Reply.
Just changed my avatar and changed the theme to Sam’s Simple Theme (I like the square avatars for now). Yay!
Trying out the emojis. Yup, they’re not showing in preview.
I’m really liking this new preview feature. One less step to have to preview.
The link function is cool! The only thing is that the clicking the link doesn’t take me anywhere in preview. I’ll have to figure out how that works. But the link function itself is pretty quick and easy.
Well, so far so good, I think I like what they’ve done with the place.
Maybe you would want to try this tip too:
I’m here, more or less. Trying not to hate it (but I do).
You rang?
I got in! I had some trouble, but now I’m here.
Thanks for the tip. Just did that and bookmarked it as my main page.
Your links work great, so I’m trying a link to see if it works.
Here’s TubaDiva’s tips and tricks in the sticky in ATMB. Just needed something to link to test it. (Still doesn’t work in preview, but maybe it will after I post it.)
ETA: And it does work! Yay! The reason it doesn’t work in preview is that the link doesn’t pop open a new tab so it would navigate away from the preview page if it did. I’ll have to find the new tab toggle for links.
ETA2: And edit works great too. I wonder how much time we have.
I am in. Thank you Jenny (Tuba Diva) for the hard work. This place is a little different and it will take a little to get used to.
Finally got in with my email address! I’m not seeing smileys in the posts, but I like the assortment of emojis that’s available.
I’m not crazy about all the underscores in my user name; I’ll have that changed once I’ve decided on something nice. My properly-formatted user name is in the “name” field in my profile; I’m guessing that’s visible to others?
I’m here. It will take a little while to get used to the new board format.
I don’t know who that is visible to. Everything we see is underscores all over the place. I’m not of fan of them, I admit it. I’m planning to change my name as soon as the moderators can catch their breath.
Plus, it seems that we cannot post emojis anymore. At least, I haven’t been able to do it lately. They did work when I first dropped by.
I’m sure that once everybody gets the hang of it, the experience will be a memorable one. If you have the right people, you’ll get the best experience in almost any circumstances. This should be a motto or a meme, or something.
When you mouseover an avatar, the alternate text is visible.
Boy howdy, do I hate infinite scroll.
I have decided on the “Material Design Theme” (whatever that means) is my favourite. For now. Clear separation of posts, and some actual colour as a highlight. I find the modern Internet has far too much grey in it.
Bookmark it, of course. Man, I’m so… clumsy sometimes. I was fumbling with all these buttons trying to figure out how I can save this configuration so that I won’t have to “manually” get the site view that I feel comfortable with every time I visit the place.
I, too, dislike the infinite scroll intensely. I switched to “Sam’s Simple Theme,” which places the older posts first in the list. However, it takes a lot of time for the posts to load…and they load from most recent to oldest. The latency is horrible. If I want to look at the second post in a thread, it’s taking me a minute or more to load the longer threads. I sure hope there’s some way to paginate the threads. If not, this just isn’t workable.
Now that I’ve started clicking on other user names, it looks like that’s the case – the poster’s old SDMB name (with proper spaces and punctuation, if these were present) is listed under the Discourse user name. Good – I’ve wanted to update my user name for a while now, but I was worried about how other people would know it was me.
Good to know about the smileys too – that may be for the best, otherwise I could see people creating literal sh!tposts with happy little poo emojis.
Oh, and I really like the Vincent theme (on desktop, anyway – I haven’t looked at the site on mobile yet).
I see what you mean. I’ll be keeping this theme myself too for a while just to see how it works for me.
With every step I seem to move ahead, I kind of feel better. The infinite scroll might turn out to be manageable ultimately.
Is this how quote works now?
