I'm hooked on poutine

It’s like crack, I’m hooked. The stuff is soooo good. And they only make it the right way in Montreal. I’m seriously considering this as a point in my college city selection. That’s some damn good stuff.

I can’t blame you. Share your poutine story! How’d you find out aboot it, where’d you get it, put anything special in it?

I’m Canadian so I guess I was eatin poutine since I was a baby. I usually get it at the chipwagon, restaurant, or even make it at home. I just love the taste of it with a million litres of vinnegar in it. Oh boy, but thats just me.

I had had it at the beginning of summer in ottawa, it was great.
Then on the Dopereal I had it for lunch, that got me hooked.

Did you enjoy your stay in Ottawa? (my town) We probably could have had a mini-dopefest.

Yeah that sounds ummm…uhh…yummy, right after I finish this delicious haggis I’ll have to try me some.
What is Poutine?

and it’s highly addictive.

My French/Canadian friends that were here for the week have been raving about poutine. Now, I may have to make a trip up to Montreal to visit them, just to find out for myself.

My first poutine was at the age of 12. I was on a road trip around the Gaspé peninsula with my parents, and we stopped off at a chip wagon alongside the highway, in the middle of nowhere. We were from Ottawa, and my mother had had poutine many, many times. So I had one. BAM. Hooked for life.

d12, I didn’t know you lived in Ottawa. Since you were at TorDope I just assumed you lived in Moronto.

To all poutine naysayers: force yourself to try one. You’ll love it.

Just to provide balance, I’m a Montrealer who finds the very idea of cheese on fries appalling.

I apply salt and vinegar, meself.

And, d12, why the hell weren’t you at Doperéal??!?

clay, how goes the healing thing?

Poutine is a French-Canadian concoction comprised
of french fries, gravy, and cheese curds.

shudders

DESECRATION!!!

I have a feeling that by “curds” you think of cottage cheese.

Cheese curds are irregularly-shaped, chewy bits of cheese (cheddar, I think).

This kind of a reaction from a nation that pours MELTED CHEEZ-WHIZ on french fries. ::puke:: At least this is real cheese.

I will promote and defend poutine until the day I die.

hands out free poutine samples to everyone in this thread We also have italian poutine available for your gustatory pleasure.

I’ve had the “cheez whiz” imitation stuff, that’s the best they can do around here. Not even close.

You have to have it from either Montreal or Ottawa.

Oh, and scott, I feel fine. Much better each day.

Mmmm… Poutine…

So good. So incredibly full of fat, but so good.

Are the fries cooked twice in peanut oil? Is the gravy redolent of onions and chicken fat? Is the dish freshly made up? Can I bunk at your place for about a week? I’ll need to cause I might just overdose on poutine if it tastes as good as it sounds.

Never bothered to go to a Dopefest because I’ve always seen them as 18+ or a “No 16 year olds allowed” zone.

Everyone knows they make the best poutine in Ottawa! At the Zhan Wagon! Right across the street from where I work. They fries are twice cooked in lard. Mmmmm lard… And the curd is so fresh it squeeks between your teeth!

Gosh, I love downtown Ottawa!
