I'm in college!

I know I’ve been absent for far too long a time…but now I’m back.

You see, I worked full time over the summer at my cushy desk job in data entry, same as I did last summer. Last summer, though, I spent reading and participating these boards. I’m probably the cause of these particular forums being banned by their firewall, which is why I’ve been gone so long. Now I’m at college, with a nice fast connection, but there’s one problem…

I get crazy-ass lag when playing MUDs, or going on IRC, and I’m wondering why…could it be some kind of setting on my computer that I can tinker with? Web pages load incredibly fast, I get superb download rates…haven’t tried online gaming yet (though I suspect the same will be true for that…slow). Any ideas?

It’s good to be back!

No ideas at all. Have fun for the next four years and then try to graduate within the next two or three years.

Dark Lord:

How is your campus network set up? At my college, everyone’s connected to the ethernet, which sometimes causes delays, especially in late afternoon and evening.

Some campus network admins block certain ports, such as the ones used by napster/etc to keep their networks from being clogged up by warez kiddies. Or they might just have the upload speeds capped low.
