Or is putting up the new forum bringing the board down? I get in, I read one post, I can’t get back.
Must be me.

You are not alone–it’s the whole Internet. Check out the Internet Traffic Report.
It is not the whole internet, it is just this board. I was on line like 10 hrs yesterday, on other Chicago sites without any difficulties or slow downs. However, this board took 5+ mins to load every page, with cable access, at 10:30am, 2:30 pm, 4:15pm, 11:15pm, midnight and 2am.
The whole internet excuse it just that, an excuse. Maybe they think this is the only site we visit so we’ll believe this unlikely story.
Er, elbows? Who the hell is “they?”
So the board was slow yesterday. It frustrated me too. I’m over it.
FWIW, yesterday morning (Thursday), after I complained about the board being slow and Tuba told me about the Internet Traffic report website, I kept going back there to check, off and on during the afternoon and evening. I noticed that, during the very worst board slowdown, of the two Chicago routers listed, one was completely out of commission, not even functioning, and the other one was laboring along at a combined score of 21.
I am the first to admit that I have a somewhat hazy grasp of exactly how the Internet works, nuts and bolts-wise, but it does seem more than coincidental that a Chicago-based MB should be moving in a reverse time-warp at the same time that both Chicago routers should be experiencing extreme technical difficulties.
I can’t get in at all. I try to view between classes and it’s a lost cause. I can write, then just hope it “took”, because I can’t wait around to see.
Well, so much for THAT theory. Just now (4:50 p.m. CDST) the board got super-fast (well, actually, it went back to normal, but it seemed super-fast by comparison), but when I went and looked at the Internet Traffic Report, it still showed both Chicago routers chugging along at 25 and 41, and the index is still holding steady at 55. So I guess it’s just that at 4:50 p.m. CDST, 6739 other Dopers all packed it in for the weekend.
