I had surgery to remove endometriosis about 2 months ago, and the pain was gone. Until today. I have a choice to either take hormones to reduce the growth, or I can take painkillers. Basically, I’ve been told this is a problem that will stay with me forever. I’m worried about taking hormones because I know they have wacky side effects. However, I know I probably can’t get my doctor to keep prescribing pain medicine for it. Has anyone else dealt with this problem?
My wife took a hormone which was based in a nasal spray…she took it for about a year. No side effects, other than the fact that her moods improved. That was noticable.
It worked.
Isn’t pregnancy the best treatment for endometriosis? (She conceived shortly after the year long treatment and all is well)
Aren’t the hormones very similar to Birth Control pills (or, even, the same thing)? Usually you can find a formulation that has few if any negative side effects for you. It is a very individual thing.
See what you doctor thinks about Depro Prevera. I have endometriosis myself, and this shot has been a * lifesaver. * I have never felt better.
My sypmtoms used to be severe. Every month, it was rolling-on-the-floor, puking, wishing-I-was-dead * agony. * I searched and searched for a doctor to help me. One told me it was all in my head and I had to stop “whining.” Another told me to have a baby because that would “clear it right up.” (Patently untrue.) Finally, after seeing six different doctors, I saw one who understood what the problem was, and helped me to understand it as well.
Yes, you will have this ailment for the rest of your life. There is no cure, only treatment. The trick is finding a treatment which is right for you. You may have to find another doctor, if the one you have won’t give you what you need to live with this problem.
The only side effect I had from Depro Prevera was a temporary gain of two pounds. Other than that, all effects have been positive: no more PMS, no cramping, no bleeding (except for minor spotting on occasion.) I feel wonderful!
Previously, my doctors had prescribed Naproxen Sodium at 550 mg (now sold over the counter as Aleve.) As I understand it Naproxen is an anti-inflamatory generally used for arthritis, but it helped in my case. It did not completely aleviate the cramping, but it made it bearable. You doctor should have no problem prescribing this, as it’s relatively harmless and non-addictive.
