I'm kicking some butt at work!

I finally got a job after having been laid off since January. Now I know that this profession is often reviled by many, but the pay is great and the hours work for me. I work for a mortage company, and I call current customers and try to get them to refinance. If they are interested, I transfer them to someone else who has all the loan-know-how to fill out the application, etc. I get paid $11/hr, plus bonuses. What do I have to do, other than call complete strangers? Simply make 25 calls an hour. As long as you do that, they’re happy. And the bonuses? This month, we get $5 for every application filled out. Not approved, just filled out. I am looking at at least a $100 bonus this month, and we aren’t quite halfway through the month.

Why am I kicking butt, you may ask? Because of this: I’m the new person (this is my 3rd week) and I am at the top of the list, leading by a fair margin.

Am I good, or what?

a.k.a.: Telemarketing

Technically yes, but most people are glad to hear from me.

I try to avoid the T word, especially since we don’t have to abide by the “no-call lists” because we have a business interest.

Evil.

:frowning: Aw come on ya’ll… go easy on me… I’m a full time college student, and I’ve been laid off since January, so I was pretty desperate for work… Now I’m not so excited for kicking butt at work… :frowning:

Go liirogue! If what you’re doing is saving people money, that’s a good thing. Don’t let these poopheads get to you.

Congrats! WTG!

Thanks Twickster, for your support. Yes, we’re trying to save them $, because we figure that they’ll just refinance with someone else if not through us.

At least one person here doesn’t hate me

Congrats! Its always a good thing to be the best at what you do, no matter what it is! I say, kick your lazy co-worker’s butts and take names!

Please don’t call me.

Fagjunk Theology: Not just for sodomite propagandists anymore.

Oh please – enough already with the “I hate telemarketers” spiel.

If you really don’t want to be bothered by telemarketers, then answer the phone when they call and tell them to put you on their do not call list. By law, they must comply. Better yet, if your state has a do not call list, sign up for that.

There’s just no reason to whine about telemarketers. Believe me, they’d rather hear you tell them up front to put you on that list than waste the time to run through the whole presentation. As the OP said, they’ve got quotas to meet too.

I think you’re doing a great job. Keep up the good work! You are on the top of the list and that’s something to be proud of. It sounds like a great job for a college student and I’m glad you found something.
