I'm listening to my '70s explosion CDs. . .

and am enjoying the hell out of them. Some questions, though–

How much does it cost? Would you buy it? Especially from the man who can’t even run his own life?

Did anyone else realize what a little slut Jim Stafford’s girl in Spiders and Snakes was? There I was all cute and 7 years old singing about going to the swim hole and taking off all my clothes (although, if I remember correctly, Jim Stafford was kinda cute).

Here’s a real question: From the opening line of the song called Give Me Just A Little More Time, I thought the lead singer sounded just like the guy who sings that version of Summertime with all the scatting. But my CD says it was sung by The Chairmen of the Board. Is the lead singer of CotB the same guy who sings Summertime?

The guy who sang “Summertime” was Billy Stewart, and the lead singer of Chairmen Of The Board was General Norman Johnson.

I must have missed the line where it says they got all nekkid. :dubious:

Eh. I’ll try it.

*I was nervous as you can guess
Still looking for something, she slipped out her dress.[/]
And then the little slut told Jim to “do whatcha wanna do.”

Actually the line is:

But I do agree that they end up doing it.

A better 70s CD series is Rhino’s Super Hits of the 70s: Have a Nice Day. I have 18 of the 25 discs in the series.

Lots of one-hit wonders and obscure stuff.

Naw, they don’t end up doing it, because the following lines are: \

And she said “come on over here.”
I got silly and I found a frog in the water by a hollow log
And I shook it at her, and I said ''This frog’s for you!", and she said…
''I don’t like spiders and snakes and that ain’t what it takes to love me, you fool…"

So she wanted him, but he was a buffoon and couldn’t be serious, so he didn’t deserve to get any.

Daddy please don’t, it wasn’t his fault he means so much to me.
Daddy please dont, we’re gonna get ma-reeeeeed

::Cue angels::

Ah but later the line is:

[QUOTEI was shy and so for a while
Most of my love was touch and smile
Til she said, “Come on over here”
I was nervous as you might guess
Still looking for somethin’ to slip down her dress
And she said, “Let’s make it perfectly clear”

She said, “I don’t like spiders and snakes
And that ain’t what it takes to love me
You fool, you fool
I don’t like spiders and snakes
And that ain’t what it takes to love me
Like I want to be loved by you”[/QUOTE]
Although it ends there, she was making it perfectly clear that he was gonna get him some.

Didn’t you have to buy them to listen to them?

Time Life page

I have this one from Rhino. It has more of the songs that I was looking for than the 70’s explosion.
When you mentioned Summertime with all the scatting, I was thinking of Mungo Jerry?

We’re loving ours too! I’m going to have a lot of these songs played at my wedding reception (after making sure none of the real crap like Playground in my Mind gets through!)

On the other hand, that would be a great song to play if we wanted to indicate that the party was over…

*Sha-la-la-la-la-la my lady
In the sun with your hair undone
Can you hear me now calling your name
From across the bay
A summer’s day laughing and a-hidin’
Chasing love out on Thunder Island

Do-do-do-do-dut, do-do-dut, do-do-do-do-doooo
Yeah, yeah, yeah*

Man, I love that song!
