I'm listening to some live Hendrix..and was wondering..

Half a rock’n’roller, maybe?
Or maybe, half good.

PS: I believe Prince is also “half,” if that was meant in the other context.

Half good, huh.
Purple Rain was a work of genius, heavily inspired by Hendrix. Prince has the sense of promotion that Hendrix lacked. Plus, he really can play guitar.
Being a guitar god doesn’t get you a whole lot.

I’ll weigh in, Prince and Lenny Kravitz are great guitarists. In Prince’s case, it is not what people think of him for tho. They think of his toal concept of an album.

Same in Kravitz’ case, even more so! On many of his albums, he is the ONLY musician! He plays every instrument, including guitars, bass, drums, keyboard, vocals. I think he even dabbles in Brass/Woodwind also.

Still…they both are only half of Jimi! They didn’t permenantly alter the way people thought of, and played, the electric guitar! Jimi was a ground-breaking talent. Like Les Paul, Chuck Berry, Eddie VanHalen! (My top four.)

Lenny Kravitz isn’t half of Hendrix. Maybe 1/500th. He may be a capable instrumentalist - although when I saw him live, he didn’t even take the solos - but I think he’s mostly just attempted to recreate the work of Hendrix and other 60s stars.

Lenny should just relax and make music, He’s good enough, like many others, like Sting for example. Good enough to have a long, solid career. And he’ll get better with age.
It’s really not fair to compare these other guys to Jimi, is it.
