I'm looking for a new-to-me car..

And I am looking to the SMDB for advice. I filled my Jeep Cherokee at $3.53 per gallon this morning and will succumb to the teachings of Earth Day. :dubious:

So, here is the car I am looking for. I understand that no car will meet all of my specifications, but am looking for what, in your opinion, would be the best match. Include year, make, and model if you know that. Here are the criteria in order of importance:

  1. Gets 35+ mpg (40 would be even better!) highway miles.
  2. Reliable (for the below price)
  3. $2 to 3k
  4. Parts are readily available, and vehicle is easy to work on (I am handy with old GM products)
  5. Cheap insurance on vehicle.
  6. Will run for ever. I want to run this until the wheels fall off.

Thanks!

You probably should be looking at a toyota echo, toyota corolla, or honda civic. Nothing else.

Honda CRX, baby!

A Chevy Prizm (which is no longer sold) is mechanically the same as a Toyota Corolla and usually sells for quite a bit less than its Toyota counterpart.
