I'm looking for socks

My mother has some circulation and nerve problems in her feet, and ordinary socks, with an elastic top or ankle constrictions are causing her a lot of discomfort.

There used to be a store locally, and a catalog, that she ordered socks from that you just pull up and they fit at the ankle, no elastic. Now neither place carries them.

Do Dopers know of anyplace online, or from a catalog, that sells the kind of socks my mom needs? Color or price are not so much of an issue. I’d sure appreciate it if I could get pointed in the right direction, it would help my mom out a lot.

My mom used to buy something like these (might not be the same brand, but they look close). Dr. Scholl’s also has some, and they might be locally available.

Thank you for those links! I’ll see my mother tomorrow and I’ll ask her about those.

I get a catalog from a company called Footsmart. They offer a lot of socks for people with circulatory and nerve issues.

If none of those options work for her, does your mom knit? If she does or can find someone locally who does, handmade socks can be custom-fit and while sock yarn is stretchier than regular yarn you don’t have actual elastic to constrict and cause her problems. I have really big ankles and calves and am fat on top of it, so I have a lot of issues with socks being tight around the ankle. The first pair of socks I made was a complete revelation.

Sorry, my mom never knitted. And even if she could have, she now has a shaking in her right hand that is making it hard for her to write.:frowning:

I crochet, but I’ve never done socks.

Sudden Kestrel, that website looks very interesting so I’ll have to show it to her, as well as the Dr. Scholl’s site.

Are these them?

I see them at Walmart, too, right next to where you stand in line to get a prescription filled.

There are excellent patterns for crochet socks. Socks custom made to your feet are so wonderful she’ll never want commercial again…

Hi! I hear you’ve been looking for me?

Don’t tell anyone, but I’m actually Ellen Cherry’s sock.

Wait, I didn’t submit that, did I?

You might want to look for diabetic socks. If you need really wide socks, as opposed to socks that are just a bit bigger, you might try these socks, which are non-binding and quite comfortable.
